Arsenal’s squad trimming has continued, with Shkodran Mustafi joining Schalke on a deal until the end of the season. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said prior to the January transfer window that he was keen to trim some flab from his squad. Mesut Ozil has been the highest-profile departure, with the former Germany international joining Fenerbahce and in so doing the club cleared a sizeable chunk of wages from the monthly bill. Sokratis Papastathopoulos joined Olympiakos earlier this month after being released from his contract, William Saliba, Sead Kolasinac and Matt Smith have left on loan, while Matt Macey joined Hibernian on a permanent basis. Fenerbahce are monitoring Mesut Ozil’s situation at Arsenal. Frozen out of both the Premier League and Europa League squads by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, Ozil won’t play any first team football until January – at the earliest. A move to the USA with DC United has been floated for the former Germany international. However, it’s understood Ozil would prefer to remain in Europe and with his contract inside the final 12 months, he would be willing to negotiate an affordable agreement with long time suitors Fenerbahce. For their part, Arsenal would be willing to grant Ozil a free transfer in January if Fener can settle personal terms. Frank Lampard insists Victor Moses will not be part of his squad for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspurs. Moses who spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce and Inter Milan respectively is back at the club, but he is not training with the first team. The former Wigan Athletic has not been selected by the Blues boss this season, except for a friendly against Wimbledon, where he also scored. While speaking ahead of his side trip to North London, Lampard made it clear in the news conference that he is not counting on the former Super Eagles forward for the season, despite injuries to Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech. “At the moment, Victor isn’t in that moment with us. He isn’t in the bubble with us at the training ground but I know him well and trained with him,” Lampard tol...
Astron Villa striker Mbwana Samatta is close to joining Turkish club Fenerbahce on loan this summer, according to reports from Goal.com. The 27-year-old striker joined Villa during the January transfer window for a reported fee of £8.5m on a four-and-a-half-year deal. He managed just two goals in 16 appearances and failed to make an impact as Villa narrowly escaped relegation last season. Samatta was omitted from the Aston Villa squad that defeated Sheffield United 1-0 on Monday. However, Dean Smith confirmed that the omission was due to his poor performance in training. Inter Milan have reportedly asked Chelsea to drop their asking price for Nigerian utility player Victor Moses. According to Calcio Mercato, the Italian club are unwilling to match Chelsea’s €12 million price tag. The Nezarrurri though will require Chelsea to drop their evaluation of the player if he is to complete a permanent switch to the San Siro at the culmination of the 2019-20 season. Moses spent the first half of the current campaign on-loan at Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce, but left the Istanbul-based club almost exactly a year after joining the them on an 18-month loan deal. The 29-year-old has made seven appearances for Inter across all competitions this s...
