I didn’t mean to become the unofficial lingerie correspondent for Who What Wear, but somehow I seem to write about boobs a lot. It’s not that I don’t love underwear, I do, just as much as the next person, but it’s more to do with how much my own lingerie needs have changed over the years, specifically when it comes to bras. From wedding prep to being a runner, as well as pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and post-pregnancy, my bra size has run the gamut. Not only have I spent a lot of time trying various bras on, but I’ve also spent a lot of time chatting with the experts on what makes a great bit of lingerie. There are two versions of myself in the pandemic. The first is a person who’s enthusiastic about working out—sometimes four runs a week, a few HIIT YouTube sessions in the kitchen, and maybe a bit of yoga too. But that was the begging of lockdown and now, as we’re coming to the end of week 678 in this strange time of our lives, my motivation has started to wane. Instead of working out, my attention is drawn to funny YouTube videos and getting lost down an Instagram hole, all while eating my way through a hefty chunk of Dairy Milk. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that but I know that I’ll feel much better once my love of exercising returns. So, what’s the solution? A bit of extra kit to help me get going again. I’m not an expert, however, so I spoke to personal trainer Richard Ha...
With summer around the corner, we’ve seen an influx of outfits featuring the traditional hallmarks of the season—vibrant colour, floral prints and statement silhouettes among them. Each year, as the weather improves, so does the prevalence of looks featuring these classic summery elements and 2020 is no different. In fact, already this season we’re seeing plenty of noteworthy outfits that feature all of these statement trends. Enter H&M, the high-street label leading the way with this trend trifecta. H&M has created a number of styles which features statement-making silhouettes, vibrant shades and various floral patterns this season, many of which have already captured the attention of several of our favourite influencers. The brand’s green miniat...
With many of us currently spending a lot more time at home than we usually would, it can be all too easy to fall into the habit of not fully getting dressed in the morning. From living in leggings to avoiding real footwear, home life usually revolves around simply wearing whatever is the most comfortable. I for one, accidentally left the house to go to the supermarket in my slippers, so that gives you an indication as to how comfortable I am right now. However, just because you might be spending time at home doesn’t mean you should stop putting on the outfits that make you feel your best. Whether you choose to add a bold colourful jumper to your legging look or style your favourite hair accessory with your trackies, often, simple additions can work to elevate not only your ...
There’s no denying that the ’90s was a real golden age for movies. I can only talk for myself, but as a teenager during that time, there were quite a few films that had an impact on me. Of course, a lot to do with that is whether Leonardo di Caprio was starring, but there was also another reason why I still love these films today: the fashion. While Clueless is always the most often referred to there are so many other movies that should be celebrated too. Right now, thanks to our continuing obsession with nostalgia and the ’90s being a major trend for spring/summer 2020 (not to mention our love of ’80s and ’70s fashion), I’m turning to those classic movies more and more for wardrobe inspiration. Keep scrolling for the 11 films I&...
I have a lot of grey loungewear pieces on rotation, and right now they’re very much needed. Yes, it’s highly predictable, but I love grey loungewear. I’ve got a theory about why it’s such a beloved colour for comfy clothing: It’s a soft hue, so it seems more relaxing, but it’s more sophisticated than a pastel pink, blue or yellow. Seeing as we’re not exactly going anywhere anytime soon and will still be spending a decent amount of time at home, it’s the perfect balance between comfy and smart. It stops you from looking like you haven’t cared about what you’ve put on for the day, but if you “accidentally” fall asleep in it watching Netflix, it’s not a problem. Below, I’ve created an edit of the coolest ...
In an era of working from home and staying in, it’s fair to say that footwear has been simplified. High-heels have been replaced with slippers, boots have been replaced with sneakers and comfort has well and truly become the key. In this sense, summer’s most popular footwear will need to adhere to a few specific categories—with comfort, ease and versatility becoming vastly important factors. With this in mind, let us introduce you to Topshop’s recent arrival. The brand’s leather twist scandals excel in all the categories above, yet also happen to be stylish and affordable, rivalling the aesthetic of a designer pair (a combination we love but don’t find very often). The pair has also won over our Shopping Editor, Joy Montgomery, who offere...
Most dresses are inherently comfy, at least the below styles certainly are, so really, why the hell not chuck on a great dress for your working (from home) day? If anything, it definitely has mood-boosting effects. Monikh is our ultimate inspiration here. (If anyone needs any more persuasion to wear them at home, her Instagram account provides more than enough.) Luckily, smock throw-on styles are one of those summer trends that come around year after year, and 2020 is no exception. Let the search for the perfect comfy, pretty dress commence. A snack. A cup of tea. Another glass of water. A quick check of Instagram. A WhatsApp to your friends of that funny video you saw of some woman making tea badly. Let’s be honest. These are just a few things that could be distracting when working from home. It is tough to remain productive, especially as we’re now many days into our routine of mostly staying in the house. So it’s time to pull out the big guns. And that means buying new stationery. I’m a firm believer in making sure you have your surroundings in check before you start working (I have to work with a tidy desk), and a great pen and a nice notepad are just part of that. Of course, stationery is so much more. There are the sticky notes, pencil cases, stamps, file holders, pencil pots, etc. I cou...
Ever have an item of clothing that people can’t stop asking you where it’s from? That piece for me right now is a vintage gold chain I bought from eBay for a tenner. Every time I wear it, I get dozens of messages on Instagram about it (because the only place you’ll really see an outfit right now is on Instagram). For a fashion editor, I have a moderate following on the platform; it’s nearing the 2K mark, but it’s not huge, especially in comparison to a lot of other peers and colleagues. This isn’t to make you feel pity for my lack of social media fans, but rather to highlight that my reach isn’t massive, yet followers message me about this necklace more than anything else. For a bit of background on this piece of jewe...
Is it just me, or is Instagram awash with basic tops this spring? Influencers who were historically known for their extroverted ensembles have been stripping it back in favour of those previously overlooked wardrobe workhorses, from racer tanks to ribbed roll-necks. If you’re anything like me, this is great news as you’ll be craving sartorial simplicity and looking for versatility when you get dressed in the morning. Less is definitely more right now, but that doesn’t mean staples can’t rival those look-at-me ensembles. Case in point: Brittany Bathgate is a diehard minimalist who builds her outfits around basics. For example, she’ll pair a Breton top with white jeans and a trench coat, and the effect is undeniably chic. Personally, I have rediscovered a love f...
Over the last month, I have completely revised my at-home outfit strategy. While originally starting my work-from-home period in a mixture of joggers, leggings and various athletic-wear pieces, I have now changed trajectory, deciding daily to opt for a combination of comfy midi dresses and flowing slip skirts. At a time when we are indoors, this change of pace has not only allowed me to look more put-together but also impacted the way I go about my day feeling drastically more polished. Whether it be a floral trapeze dress or vibrantly coloured midi, the choice to dress up has helped not only my productivity but also my mood. Thankfully, there are plenty of dresses available on the high street right now that can mirror this mood-boosting effect, as new s...
