The same day Fall Out Boy announced their upcoming eighth album, founding guitarist Joe Trohman posted a note to social media saying he’s taking a break from the band. “Without divulging all the details, I must disclose that my mental health has rapidly deteriorated over the past several years,” Trohman wrote in a message posted to Fall Out Boy’s Instagram page. “So, to avoid fading away and never returning, I will be taking a break from work which regrettably includes stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a spell.” Trohman has been with the band since its early 2000s formation in the suburbs of Chicago, alongside singer Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz and drummer Andy Hurley. Earlier Wednesday, Fall Out Boy announced their eighth studio album, So Much (For) Stardust, out March 24, and rel...
When you think of Fall Out Boy, the first name you think of probably isn’t Joe Trohman — and he’s perfectly fine with that. But things weren’t always that way for the heavily tattooed guitarist who co-founded the band with Pete Wentz when he was a teenager and has since spent most of his life in Fall Out Boy as they morphed from a scrappy Chicago punk act to one of the biggest pop-rock bands in the world. While Trohman’s memoir, None of This Rocks, deals with him coming to terms with his role in Fall Out Boy and their obligatory career highlights, the book isn’t a rock biography as much as it is a psychological study of the guitarist. It’s the story of someone who’s dealt with clinical depression for most of his life and had a complex relationship with his mother, who also struggled with s...

Green Day released a banging compilation video of them performing “Rock and Roll All Nite” night after night during the U.S. leg of their Hella Mega Tour. The KISS cover became a live staple for the punk trio, who will resume the tour with Weezer and Fall Out Boy, in Europe and the U.K. [embedded content] The video shows head-boppin’ fans and funny backstage shenanigans as everyone rocks out to the iconic rock anthem. Old people crowd surf, Billie Joe Armstrong looks like a bug on his back on top of a piano, and the huge mob of heads in the stadium makes for a light-hearted, forgetful-of-the-pandemic time. The alt-rock giants finished off the U.S. portion of the tour in Seattle on September 6. Hella Mega will take over Europe beginning in June 2022 with its first show in Vienna. Fans can p...
After multiple setbacks and schedule changes, Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Weezer’s ballyhooed Hella Mega Tour is finally happening. On Monday morning (May 17), the trio announced the rescheduled dates for the stadium tour, which kicks off July 24 in Dallas and now includes new stops in Columbus, Ohio at Crew Stadium and at Milwaukee’s Summerfest. The run of dates ends Sept. 6 in Seattle. If that’s not enough action for one day, Green Day also shared a new song titled “Pollyanna,” which you can hear below. [embedded content] The tour was originally announced in 2019 (which may as well be 2009 at this point) and due to COVID, the tour was pushed several times. Check out the rescheduled tour dates below. Joe Biden’s inauguration — which, despite everything, is happening — will be celebrated with some virtual music on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 8pm ET. The lineup includes Carole King, will.i.am, James Taylor, Fall Out Boy, Michael Bivins, Ben Harper and AJR with Keegan-Michael Key and Debra Messing as hosts. The invitations — which circulated today — say there will also be appearances from Connie Britton, Kal Penn, Sophia Bush and Jamie Camil. Fall Out Boy is somewhat of an obvious choice for this, considering Pete Wentz’s personal connection to Biden: “My parents met working for Joe Biden in the Senate in the 70s. To me he is a beacon of empathy, compassion and kindness. The times we live in call for a leader with these specific traits. Proud to call Joe Biden my president,” he said in an In...
