Sergio Aguero apologises after embarrassing penalty miss vs Chelsea

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has issued an apology for his penalty miss against Chelsea. Aguero made a hash of his Panenka effort on Saturday, spooning the kick straight into the arms of Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. It was a surprising slip from the usually unerring Argentine, but it was in keeping with a torrid season for the Premier League leaders from 12 yards out and contributed to a 2-1 defeat that prevented City from claiming the title. City boss Pep Guardiola refused to criticise the forward following the game, but Aguero has taken to Twitter to issue an apology. “I would like to apologise to my team-mates, staff and supporters for missing the penalty,” Aguero wrote. “It was a bad decision and I take full responsibility.” Aguero’s Panenka nightmare was the fourth penal...

Tammy Abraham to ‘make Chelsea transfer request’

Tammy Abraham is leaning towards seeking a move from Chelsea this summer. Abraham has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Aston Villa among the clubs to be credited with an interest in his services. The striker had a prolific loan spell at Villa in the 2018/19 season, scoring 26 goals to help fire Smith’s side to promotion from the Championship, and remains well thought of in the Midlands. The Guardian says Abraham has left out of the squad altogether as Chelsea beat Manchester City at Wembley in Saturday’s FA Cup semifinal and the forward is now ‘considering seeking a fresh opportunity. Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers heaped praise on Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy after the duo combined to score the winning goal in the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton. The Nigeria international has now netted 10 goals in his previous seven appearances for the club. In the same point of time, Vardy has struggled to find his scoring boots, but has produced some valuable assists. He provided a lovely pass for Iheanacho, who scored in his second attempt after his initial shot was blocked by Jan Vestergaard. ‘It doesn’t look good’: Pep Guardiola provides worrying injury update on Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola provided a concerning injury update on Kevin De Bruyne following the club’s 1-0 FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea on Saturday. The Belgium international sustained a foot injury early in the second half despite not making any contact with Blues midfielder N’Golo Kante, who dispossessed him. He was substituted in the 48th minute. It proved a blow for the Cityzens as they went on to lose 1-0. Hakim Ziyech bagged the winner for the Blues. Speaking after the game, Guardiola acknowledged that De Bruyne has pain and added that things don’t look good from the initial assessment. He told Mancity.com: “He has pain now. Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that the club will be without Mateo Kovacic and Andreas Christensen for the FA Cup semi-final tie against Manchester City on Saturday. Christensen has been unavailable since the 3-1 league win over Crystal Palace last weekend with a knock. Kovacic suffered a hamstring injury before the Porto clash. Chelsea squeeze through to UCL semis after late Porto scare

Chelsea booked their spot in the Champions League semi-finals despite a late goal from Mehdi Taremi for Porto on Tuesday night. The Portuguese outfit tried to set a fast tempo from the off but struggled to break down Chelsea in a first period where neither side had a shot on target. The pattern continued after the interval and it wasn’t until the 65th minute that Edouard Mendy was forced to make a save when he easily kept out substitute Mehdi Taremi’s header. The Blues had the better of the half chances through Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic but seemed content with a stalemate that was broken four minutes into added time when Taremi struck to give Cheslea a late scare. Chelsea, who will meet either Liverpool or Real Madrid in the last four, will now shift focus to the FA Cup semi final ...

West Brom thrash Southampton to boost survival hopes

West Bromwich Albion improved their slender hopes of avoiding relegation from the Premier League as they survived VAR controversy to beat Southampton 3-0 on Monday. Sam Allardyce’s side saw Mbaye Diagne’s goal questionably ruled out by VAR early in the first half at the Hawthorns. But they recovered from that blow to sweep into a two-goal lead by half-time thanks to Matheus Pereira’s penalty and a Matt Phillips strike. Callum Robinson sealed West Brom’s second successive win after the interval as the Baggies built on their stunning 5-2 victory at Chelsea. Second bottom Albion move within eight points of fourth bottom Newcastle with seven games left. The Baggies have scored eight goals in their last two games, two more than they had netted in their previous 11 combined, but their unexpected...

Manchester United boss rules out suggestions of move for Kun Aguero

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ruled out suggestions that Sergio Aguero could cross the Manchester divide by joining Man Utd. The Manchester City legend has confirmed that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season after a decade of success at the Etihad, winning four league titles, five league cups and an FA Cup, as well as establishing himself as the club’s record goalscorer. He does of course still have the chance to add four more winners medals to his collection before the end of the season as City chase an unprecedented quadruple of honours this campaign. However, with Aguero set to finish his career away from the Etihad, attentions have understandably turned to where he will be moving to, with a whole host of top European sides looking to bolster their attacking lineups. Barcelon...
