Imo North bye election: Appeal Court upholds Frank Ibezim’s disqualification as APC candidate

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Saturday, upheld the disqualification of Sir Chuwuma Ibezim as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Senatorial by-election held in Imo North on December 5, 2020. The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-man panel of Justices, affirmed the judgement of the Federal High Court in Abuja which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to remove Ibezim’s name from the list of candidates for the by-election, after it found him guilty of submitting falsified documents. The high court judgement followed a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1229/2020, which was filed against Ibezim by Asomugha Elebeke. Court orders Governor Obaseki to open defence in ‘certificate forgery’ case

The All Progressives Congress, APC, on Monday, closed the forgery case it instituted against Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, after it called a total of six witnesses and tendered 17 Exhibits. Lead counsel to the APC, Chief Akin Olujimi, SAN, announced decision of the party to rest its case, shortly after the court discharged the sixth witness, PW-6, Dr. Mikano Asekome, who is an Associate Professor in Banking and Finance Department at Benson Idahosa University, Benin city, Edo state. The PW-6 told the court that he was on December 23, 2020, summoned to appear as witness in the matter. NIPOST, WAEC collaborate on delivery of examination documents

File Photo The Nigeria Postal Services and the West African Examination Council have declared their readiness to collaborate on the delivery of examination documents across the country. Both agencies made their intentions known when the Head of National Office, WAEC, Patrick Areghan, visited the Postmaster-General of the Federation, NIPOST, Adebayo Adewusi, in Abuja. The General Manager, Corporation Communications, NIPOST, Franklin Alao, said in a statement on Friday that the WAEC official told his host that the purpose of his visit was to collaborate with NIPOST in the area of logistics. Areghan said such logistics would mean using NIPOST locked up vans to deliver WAEC documents, as he also spoke on collaborating with postal agency for the delivery of certificates.
