I’m a Stylist—These Are the Outfit Ideas I Plan on Copying in 2023

And truly, there’s no better time to do this than at the end of a year when we can all be left a little unsure of how to dress from January 1st. As we look ahead to 2023, it can help us relish in our wardrobes again, rediscovering what we already have and what might be good to invest in. I know how easy it is to let your once-exciting buys blend into the back of your wardrobe after a number of wears. But finding new ways to style them together or adding in just one fresh new item can breathe life into them and extend their use for at least another year.  That’s the best part about these 17 looks—they probably involve pieces you already have. It’s really all about subtle styling tricks or an unexpected pairing that can instantly modernise your look. A lot of th...

How to Shrink a Shirt to the Perfect Size

There are a couple of effective methods for shrinking a shirt, and one of the easiest is by boiling it. Simply heat up a pot of water, and then shut off the stove as soon as it reaches a boil. Drop the shirt in the water immediately, and then let it sit for about five minutes. If you’re looking for a more serious degree of shrinkage, you can leave the shirt in the water for up to 20 minutes. The longer the shirt is left in the water, the further it will shrink, but obviously, there’s a limit to this magic. Most shirts will only shrink up to a maximum of 20% in size. Once you’re finished soaking the shirt, remove it from the water using a pair of tongs or a wooden spoon. Once the shirt has cooled off enough to touch, wring it out and examine your progress. The boiling process can be repeate...

My Vibe Right Now Is “Autumn in Paris”—5 Easy Outfits I’m Wearing On Repeat

This simple Instagram caption from Sylvie Mus really jumped out at me: “Autumn in Paris.” There definitely is a vibe to go with “autumn in Paris.” Now, I’m not actually in Paris, so I can’t claim to be an expert,  but after I saw the outfits of several of my favourite influencers based in Paris, it became clear that many of their current go-to outfits are in line with the kind of look I’m generally interested in right now anyway. The silhouette in question? A pared-down look (very “French”) that’s easy yet elevated. I’m talking about something similar to the ensemble Mus wore in her post—a ribbed knit and jeans. I, too, am wearing a version of that&nb...

5 Ways You Can Make Your Clothes Last Longer (and Save Money)

How to care for your clothes? It appears to be a concept that many of us still struggle to define, but all is not lost. Despite Marie Kondo helping us to spark joy, we still have a lot of stuff in our wardrobes—and stuff we rarely wear. In journalist Lauren Bravo’s book, How to Break Up With Fast Fashion, she revealed that in 2019 alone the UK spent an estimated £2.7 billion on clothes that only got worn once. That’s quite the sobering statistic. Adding to this, there’s nothing quite like a cost-of-living crisis to really make you double-down on sensible purchases and making what you already own go that little bit further. For those of us who love fashion, we know that it can, at times, make you feel overwhelming guilt and shame about the textile bounty you’ve amas...
