‘Fantastic’ – Townsend says £200k-per-week Everton player has worked really hard in training

Andros Townsend has suggested that Everton attacking midfielder James Rodriguez has been working really hard in training.  Rodriguez, who joined last summer from Real Madrid, is facing an uncertain future at Goodison Park. He is yet to feature under Rafael Benitez and was linked with a move away from the club during the summer. In his first season at the Merseyside club, Rodriguez only showed flashes of brilliance but failed to maintain consistency. Townsend, however, feels that Rodriguez is fully focussed and he is confident that Benitez will integrate him when he feels the moment is right. He has hailed him as a fantastic player, and suggested that he has worked really hard in training during the international break. “He’s a fantastic player,” said Townsend to the Daily Mail. “Every...

‘The real deal’ – Townsend says Everton player with ‘massive potential’ has really impressed him

Everton summer signing Andros Townsend has showered heaps of praise on club teammate Ben Godfrey. Townsend, who joined the club on a free transfer this summer after being released by Crystal Palace, has suggested that Godfrey is one player who can go to the very top. The former Tottenham winger has impressed heavily so far, with Everton making an unbeaten start to the season. He has suggested that Godfrey is the “real deal” and that he has impressed him heavily in training. When asked which teammate has impressed him more, Townsend told the Daily Mail: “The one player who does stick out is Ben Godfrey. “Obviously I played against him last season and he’s got massive potential, but seeing him on a day-to-day basis, he really is the real deal. “Again, with a manager like Rafa who will work h...

£25m-rated man has uncertain Everton future, club tried to sell 30 y/o after manager exit [opinion]

James Rodriguez was seen as quite a coup when he first joined Everton, but the 30-year-old now has an uncertain future at Goodison Park after an eventful summer – James followed Carlo Ancelotti to Everton last season but saw his ex-Real Madrid manager return to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. The Colombian international told ESPN in April that Ancelotti was the only reason he joined the Toffees, so things were up in the air following his departure in June. Everton even tried to sell James before the summer transfer window shut, but the player blocked a move to Istanbul Basaksehir – the Super Lig club sit second from bottom in the table without a point from their first three games this season. James may have been open to a move away from Everton if it was a step up than step down, but he...

Marcel Brands has a golden opportunity to rectify Everton transfer mistake – Opinion

Everton defender Seamus Coleman picked up an injury against Azerbaijan on Saturday and he is set to miss the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Serbia on Tuesday evening. The true extent of the injury is yet to be revealed but the news will come as a major blow for Everton who are already lacking in depth as far as the right-back position is concerned. The Toffees needed to bring in a quality right-back option this summer but they failed to do so and it could prove to be a costly mistake for them. The 32-year-old Everton defender was unlikely to play every week anyway and Marcel Brands should have signed someone who could replace Coleman in the long run. Jonjoe Kenny could step in as an alternative for Coleman but the drop off in quality will certainly weaken the side. The T...

Dutch international midfielder Donny van de Beek has had a torrid time at Old Trafford since his £35 million move from Ajax. ‘He’s only concerned’ – Everton summer signing reveals what Benitez has told him

Andros Townsend has revealed that Everton boss Rafael Benitez wants him to focus mainly on his output in the final third. Eyebrows were raised when Benitez signed the 30-year-old winger on a free transfer after he was released by Crystal Palace this summer. Everton operated on a tight budget, with the club spending very little in the market. However, the likes of Townsend and Demarai Gray have impressed heavily for the Toffees.  The former Tottenham Hotspur winger was brilliant against Southampton where he provided an assist and he also impressed during Everton’s 2-1 win over Huddersfield in the EFL Cup. Townsend has revealed that Benitez wants him to focus more on the attacking side of his game, rather than thinking about making defensive contributions. He told in an exclusive interv...
