He joined the Clarets from Leeds United in 2017 and has since established himself as a solid Premier League performer. According to Mirror, Villa manager Dean Smith believes that the 29-year-old would be the ideal option alongside Ollie Watkins next season. The Midlands club could use some depth in the attacking department, and the experienced Burnley forward could prove to be a quality addition. Everton are also keeping tabs on his situation, but they are waiting to finalise their managerial appointment before following up their interest in Wood. The player will cost more tha...

Report suggests 41-yr-old manager is on Everton’s shortlist to replace Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti has returned to Real Madrid, and Everton will need to find a quality long term replacement. According to the Athletic, Everton held a board meeting earlier today to discuss their current situation and are now drawing up a shortlist of potential replacements. Steven Gerrard and former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez are two candidates who are being considered for the Goodison Park role. Gerrard did a tremendous job at Rangers this past season, breaking Celtic’s dominance in the Scottish Premiership. He guided Rangers to an unbeaten season in the league, and the Ibrox outfit were also impressive in the Europa League under his management. Although he’s still relatively inexperienced as a manager, he could bring some much-needed aggression and freshness to the Merseyside club if...

Euro 2020: Gareth Southgate invites Bukayo Saka, 24 others

Gareth Southgate hit back at the critics after selecting Trent Alexander-Arnold for England’s Euro 2020 squad as the Three Lions boss admitted Harry Maguire is a doubt for the opener against Croatia. Alexander-Arnold had to endure a nervous wait before learning he had made the cut after spending much of the season out of favour with Southgate. The 22-year-old was left out of Southgate’s England squad for their World Cup qualifiers in March. But Alexander-Arnold’s strong end to the season with Liverpool convinced Southgate to restore the right-back to his squad. Alexander-Arnold responded to his selection by tweeting: “Always believe in yourself. Silence the doubters.” Irritated by the inaccurate pre-announcement reports that he would drop Alexander-Arnold, Southgate insisted he never lost ...

Gareth Southgate has released his 26-man squad for this summer’s European Championships. The England boss initially named a provisional 33-man squad on May 25, with several players involved in major European finals or carrying injuries. He has now cut seven players from the provisional squad, leaving 26 who will play for the Three Lions at Euro 2020. Much of the debate over the squad has been surrounding Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was excluded from the last squad in March. However, Southgate has recalled the youngster. It was confirmed earlier today that Mason Greenwood had pulled out of the squad due to an underlying injury concern. Now, it has been revealed that the other six omitted from the squad are Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White, Ben Godfrey, Jesse Lingard, James Ward-Prowse ...

Negotiations underway: Euro club in talks with Everton to reach agreement for £34m player

The Athletic’s mailbag today has answered a brilliant question on Moise Kean’s future at Everton.  For those who don’t have a subscription to The Athletic, I will make it easy for you. Here’s the answer from Patrick Boyland on Kean. He writes: “Always a chance — no matter how small — as this is football and Kean is still contracted to Everton. But he was happy at Paris Saint-Germain and Ancelotti has gone on the record as saying he will not keep players who want to leave. After a productive season in which he has further enhanced his reputation, Kean is a rare and precious commodity at Goodison: a fringe player who should command a sizable fee. That could be important this summer. “My understanding is that even if PSG’s manager Mauricio Pochettino left, i...

The Saints were interested in the 22-year-old last summer, but they failed to strike a suitable agreement with the Toffees. The south coast outfit are planning another move for the Toffees graduate, who has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park. He is currently behind Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure for a starting spot while facing competition from Andre Gomes off the bench. Sportslens view: The Saints had a dismal second half to the 2020/21 season, ending up 15th in the standings with just 43 points on the board. Ralph Hassenhuttl will want to strengthen the squad this summer to ensure that the club are fighting for a top 10 finish next term. Th...
