Updated Fyre Festival Lawsuit Seeks to Order Billy McFarland to Pay $7.5 Million in Damages

Over three years later, the Fyre Festival debacle rages on. Ticket-holders from the calamitous April 2017 event on the Bahamian island of Great Exuma filed a class action lawsuit against the fraudulent event’s owner, Billy McFarland, following its implosion of mythical proportions. Those patrons are still in pursuit and have recently asked a New York magistrate to issue a default judgement, which would order the disgraced founder, who is currently in prison in Ohio, to pay them $7.5 million in damages. With McFarland behind bars, a litany of investors, pass-holders, and trustees are still scrambling to receive due funds in the wake of Fyre’s bankruptcy. Electric Blockaloo is now Rave Family Block Fest. The forthcoming digital event, which has the promise of becoming the world’s largest Minecraft music festival, announced over the weekend that it would be changing its name and, additionally, will be delayed by two weeks.  Regarding the name change, the name Electric Blockaloo was originally intended to pay homage to the breakdancing movement captured by the film Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo. More recently, however, the term “boogaloo“ was co-opted by an anarchist extremist group in the United States. Serbia’s EXIT Festival Unveils First Wave of Lineup for 20th Anniversary Event in August

EXIT Festival ironically may be one of the few festivals actually allowing attendees to enter this summer after confirming its first wave of artists for its 2020 edition. The Serbian festival, which will be celebrating its 20th anniversary, was recently postponed from July to its current dates of August 13th to 16th due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As promoters and artists look for creative ways to connect with fans in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which effectively crumpled the live music industry, drive-in raves have emerged as a very popular alternative.
