Firefly Music Festival Organizers Announce 2023 Cancellation

After celebrating its 10th anniversary last month, Firefly Music Festival will not return in 2023. The famed Delaware festival will not move forward in 2023 in order to “take a year to recharge our lights,” according to a statement released by its organizers. The announcement did say the fest will return in 2024. Since its inaugural event in 2012, Firefly has remained a staple in the Northeast music festival scene. The festival became so successful that it was ultimately acquired by AEG, the entertainment giant who runs Coachella, in 2018. This year’s fest celebrated a decade of Firefly with high-profile performances by Halsey, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Dua Lipa, Porter Robinson, Seven Lions, Jamie xx and more. Past editions have featured headlining sets f...

Apashe Takes Fans On a Full-Send Field Trip to the “Renaissance” Tour

Hello, class. Meet your substitute history teacher, Apashe. For one special night, Apashe transformed a rather ordinary Vancouver nightclub into his unique museum: part historical renaissance, part dystopian future. He is your docent, director and dominion to a dramatic destination. Apashe’s unique blend of classical and electronic music is rapidly becoming a favorite amongst festival-goers. His sold-out shows and crowd mastery are evidence that he is not only a special attraction, but also an artist worthy of the marquee. Innocent bystanders looking for an ordinary night out were likely confused by the red lightsaber-wielding DJ. That confusion doubled over by the sight of concertgoers waving their fingers to thrashing pianos and heart-pounding bass. But ticket-holders knew what the...

Burning Man Reveals 2023 Theme, Animalia

Following a successful return to the playa in 2022, the organizers of Burning Man are starting to prepare for next year’s edition by announcing its theme: Animalia. The theme was revealed in a blog post published in The Burning Man Journal by Stuart Mangrum, the director of Burning Man Project’s Philosophical Center.  “This year’s Burning Man theme will celebrate the animal world and our place in it—animals real and imagined, mythic and remembered—and explore the curious mental constructs that allow us to believe that imagined animals are real, real animals are imagined, and that somehow, despite all evidence to the contrary, mankind is somehow not part of the animal kingdom,” Mangrum wrote.  That may take a minute to digest, but it leaves room for in...

Record-Breaking Amsterdam Dance Event Draws In 450,000 Attendees

The dust has just begun to settle on Amsterdam Dance Event 2022, and its numbers confirm a record-breaking year.  The five-day assembly of conferences, performances, panels and more brought out over 450,000 attendees, who hailed from 146 different countries. 2022 marked a full return for the event following a series of pandemic-related cancellations. Last year’s partial return to action saw ADE’s Pro programming cancelled due to uncertainty surrounding the Dutch government’s restrictions. For that reason, it’s certainly no surprise that this year’s 27th edition of ADE achieved blowout results by every metric. More than 1,000 events dotted the city across 200 unique locations and over 2,500 artists participated in the nonstop action, like electronic music ...

The feathers were swaying and sequins were glittering at last night’s star-studded Wearable Art Gala, a benefit celebrating the 5th anniversary of WACO Theater Center, founded by co-artistic directors Tina Knowles-Lawson and Richard Lawson. Inspired by the aesthetics and Black excellence of the Harlem Renaissance era, the benefit is designed to support the company’s artistic and youth mentorship programs through a fine art auction. “Each year we find a theme that connects us historically with our past,” Richard Lawson told THR. “[We explore] the evolution of African culture in the western world.” Previous themes have included The Lion King and Black Panther‘s Wakanda. But this year, 50,000 square feet of the Barker Hanger at Santa Monica&nb...
