Tasked with guiding my friend through his first EDM concert, I was confident Liquid Stranger would take good care of us. The Wakaan boss brought his DIMENSIONS tour to the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, B.C. on November 26th for a night of head-banging, hip-swinging fun. I took a small survey of festival-goers at Thunderdome earlier this year and Liquid Stranger was overwhelmingly among the lineup’s favorites. That reputation was well-deserved. Already a fan of his music—songs like “Dissolve,” “Dragonhawks” and “Don’t Stop” serve as building blocks for some of my most cherished playlists—it was reassuring to see his live performance measure up. Stranger was also trusted to close out the final day of Beyond Wonderland at the Gorge’s Ch...
Since its genesis, Thunderdome has been Excision‘s go-to performance to showcase newfangled sights and sounds for his loyal fanbase. And this year was no different. As he’s done in years past, Excision took to the hotly debated bass capitol of Seattle to debut an entirely revamped show. Armed with an arsenal of dubstep and bass firepower, he shook the Tacoma Dome for two days with DJ sets full of new music. The massive lineup of supporting DJs did the same, like YOOKiE, who dropped a mind-melting remix of ACRAZE’s global hit “Do It To It.” JEANIE, Vampa, ATLiens, Eptic, and the rest of the lineup showed out, preparing ravers for what was ultimately one of Excision’s best performances in recent memory. The unwavering doses of new music brought more than j...
Kiss goodbye to the old Louis The Child. Long known for their bubbly dance-pop anthems, like the Taylor Swift-approved “It’s Strange,” the duo have now mutated into a full-blown rave act. It’s like when the cuddly Minions transformed into the evil, fang-dripping purple monstrosities in Despicable Me. But unlike the family-friendly comedy, there’s nothing childish about Louis The Child’s new direction. Louis The Child perform at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Friday, August 27th, 2021. Jason Siegel After the duo’s recent headlining performance at Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, it’s clear the style that longtime fans are used to is gone, eighty-sixed in favor of one that foams at its mouth with rave energy. The honeyed xylophon...
After a year-and-a-half, Nora En Pure finally brought her Purified showcase back to a live audience. Bearing the namesake of her stellar radio show-turned-record label, Purified events are a celebration of deep and melodic house, with lineups curated by Nora En Pure at some of the world’s most popular venues. This time around, on July 31st, Nora En Pure—who played two DJ sets herself—invited All Living Things, Cassian, Dosem, and Marsh to perform at New York’s famed electronic music hotspot, The Brooklyn Mirage. The sprawling, multi-level, open-air venue was a perfect setting for the euphoric sound of En Pure. The sun setting on the New York skyline at The Brooklyn Mirage. Dance musician Elderbrook emerged as somewhat of a dark horse in the electronic scene, popping into prominence in 2018 following a Grammy nod for his hit single “Cola” with CamelPhat. Later came his show-stopping debut album, Why Do We Shake In The Cold, which was released to critical acclaim and devotee fanfare. This is the project that solidified the versatile vocalist, songwriter and producer’s status as a go-to for bright, jam-ready music that will have you singing in your feels faster than you can say play. Elderbrook most recently made his way to Chicago’s Lollapalooza for a pair of shows primed to pull some of the weekend’s biggest audiences, relative to their stages and slots. To check out the buzz first hand, we made our way to Wicker Park’...
