Haunting, visceral, memorable—what can be said of ESPER’s music that can’t be said of the supernatural? The electronic music prodigy, whose real name is Max Margot, is experiencing quite a rise through the EDM scene. ESPER’s name derives from the concept of extrasensory perception, or ESP, more commonly known as “the sixth sense.” No, he does not see dead people. What he sees is a bright future. Thanks to the iconic 1999 film of the same name, “the sixth sense” is more commonly associated with the paranormal community. But for Margot, it’s rooted more in psychology. One of the core values at the bedrock of his brand, he says, is empathy, as in he hopes his music connects with fans so their subconscious feelings bubble to the surface. And...
Rising electronic music producers ESPER and Lockbox have teamed up with Los-Angeles-based singer-songwriter Isaiah Brown for a new single called “Freefall.” Brown provides a stentorian topline here, exploring the difficulties of letting go and finding the strength to break free from the shackles of the past. The transcendent nature of the lyricism is mirrored by the track’s soaring drops, which find ESPER and Lockbox producing a melodic bass stunner replete with empyrean synths and fluttering arpeggios. The young producers go haywire in the second drop, switching up the arrangement with a ferocious dubstep segment before bringing the song home with a melancholic coda. Take a listen to “Freefall” below and find the single on streaming platforms here. ...

DREAMS, according to ESPER, is about “being true to yourself, believing in yourself and your dreams and loving yourself.” Of the record’s five tracks, four have previously been released, including the aforementioned “My Mind,” “Anymore,” “Can You See It,” and “Fly.” “Dreams” is the first and freshest single on the EP. ESPER has cooked up a wide variety of bass-cent...
When Friday crate-digging, it’s easy to get caught up with the releases from the well-known main stage slayers. Dig a little deeper, though, and you’ll find some heaters from debuting artists, like ESPER, who has dropped the curtain on “MY MIND” with Courtney Drummey. The debut track from the Frenchman is for all the rail-riders who are aching for that front row bass experience, mixing classical string elements and huge dubstep drops to create sonic ear candy for the most discerning bass-heads. Leading off with a string section, Drummey’s hypnotic vocals quickly take center stage before ESPER kicks the track into high gear. The guitars start to build, ushering in the low end that will have fans of REZZ and NGHTMRE head banging. The pr...
