HHW Gaming: Google Was So Pressed About Epic’s App Store Moves It Created A ‘Fortnite’ Task Force

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: SOPA Images / Getty Google was extremely pressed about Epic Games and how it got Fortnite into the hands of players. Bloomberg reports Google decided to create a Fortnite Task Force in 2018 after Epic Games found a way to go around Google’s Play Store and launch the game through Samsung’s Galaxy Store and its website in 2018, internal Google documents reveal. The filings also reveal that Google “latched onto” a potential security issue for players loading the game onto their phone through the Galaxy Store or Fortnite’s website. Epic claims that Google “rushed to get the word out” in just nine days, completely ignoring its own policy of giving app developers 90 days before it makes vulnerabilities public. Epic says the move was to “deter developers fr...

HHW Gaming: Epic Straight Up Removes Travis Scott’s Emote From ‘Fortnite’ Item Shop

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Neilson Barnard / Getty Travis Scott is feeling the fallout from the tragic events at his Astroworld music festival. Travis Scott reportedly is “too distraught” to headline the Day N Vegas festival, gave those who attended the Astroworld festival full refunds, and was slapped with a lawsuit despite announcing he would pay for the funeral costs of the eight people who died. Now, his existence from Fortnite is being scrubbed from the highly-addictive game. Per The Verge, via a Eurogamer report, the “Out West” emote that features a snippet of Travis Scott’s song of the same name was removed from the Fortnite Item Shop by the game’s developer. At the time, the entire Item Shop was taken down without any explanation before Fortnite put out a tweet acknowledgin...

deadmau5 Reveals “Oberhasli” VR Game

Over a year after teasing a mysterious VR project on Instagram, deadmau5 has unveiled Oberhasli at gamescom’s Opening Night. Curated by deadmau5 himself, Oberhasli is a virtual reality game that will contain a consistently evolving world of music, environments, and other interactive content for players. It will have in-game communication features, such as playing other games, listening to live music performances, socializing, and engaging with artists. “Creating a world like Oberhasli has been a vision of mine for years now, but I quickly discovered how daunting it can be to create a multiplayer experience as a solo developer,” deadmau5 said in a press release. “The amazing thing about Core is that anyone can jump in and create content regardless of experience o...

HHW Gaming: DaBaby ‘Fortnite’ Tie-In Discovered In Update By Data Miners, Epic Games Stays Silent

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Jason Koerner / Getty Epic Games is definitely not reading the room following this discovery. As spotted on The Verge, data miners made an interesting find while digging deep into Fortnite’s v17.30 update released on Tuesday (Aug.3) morning. A file containing audio for a new emote from The Migos latest track, “AM to PM,” which features currently embattled Hip-Hop star DaBaby, was discovered. If you have no clue what is going on with the North Carolina Hip-Hop star, he has been embroiled in controversy following his headass homophobic comments toward people with HIV and AIDS he blurted out during his Rolling Loud Miami performance. Instead of apologizing, DaBaby doubled down on his comments leading to “DaBookings” and “DaBags” being fumbled. DaBaby has sai...

HHW Gaming: Tim Cook, Tim Sweeney & More Could Be Called As Witnesses In Next Week’s ‘Fortnite’ Trial

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin / Getty The long-awaited legal battle between Fortnite developer Epic Games and Apple finally goes to trial next week, and the witness list is stacked. Back in August, Apple gave Fortnite the boot from the App Store after Epic Games revealed it would be bypassing the 30% revenue cut that both the App Store and Google Play store takes when players purchase V-Bucks in Fortnite. In a statement, Epic Games said, “If Apple or Google lower their fees on payments in the future, Epic will pass along the savings to you.”  In response to Epic Games decision, Apple pulled the game from the App Store, and in its own statement, the company said: “Today, Epic Games took the unfortunate step of violating the App Store guidelines that are a...

Kaskade is Getting His Own Fortnite “Party Royale” Concert

Even before concerts were forced online due to the ongoing pandemic, Epic Games‘ flagship title, Fortnite, was hosting full-scale events. After a groundbreaking performance from Marshmello in 2019, they would go on to invite Travis Scott, J Balvin, BTS, deadmau5, and more to the virtual stage. Now, celebrating his recent crossover with Epic Games’ recently-acquired title, Rocket League, Kaskade is primed for an in-game performance. Seemingly due to the nature of the games themselves, the event will not actually take place in the Rocket League application, but rather in the world of Fortnite and the Houseparty app. However, this does not mean there won’t be tons of rocket-powered car soccer elements included. Organizers promise a show that wil...

Apple’s App Store hosting multi-million dollar scams – developer

Mobile app developer Kosta Eleftheriou has a new calling that goes beyond software development: taking on what he sees as a rampant scam problem ruining the integrity of Apple’s App Store. Eleftheriou, who created the successful Apple Watch keyboard app FlickType, has for the last two weeks been publicly criticizing Apple for lax enforcement of its App Store rules that have allowed scam apps, as well as apps that clone popular software from other developers, to run rampant. These apps enjoy top billing in the iPhone marketplace, all thanks to glowing reviews and sterling five-star ratings that are largely fabricated, he says. Up to now, I’ve been in the “Apple *wants* to do the right thing” camp. My viewpoint is starting to change. How to spot a $5M/year scam on the @AppS...
