Australian indie game developer Grease Monkey Games, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, has received received financial support from video-game giant Epic Games to develop a new blockchain-based motorsport game Torque Drift 2 Receiving an Epic MegaGrant from the Fortnite developers, the funding will be used to develop the motorsport title, which is based on drifting. Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney says his firm “definitely won’t” follow Minecraft’s developers in banning non-fungible tokens (NFTs). As previously reported, Minecraft developers Mojang Studios banned NFT integrations on July 20 as it believes the speculative aspect of NFTs, along with scarcity and risks of exclusion and scams supposedly associated with NFTs being against the game’s principles. Sony Invests $1B in Bandcamp and ‘Fortnite’ Owner Epic Games

Epic Games, the publisher of the popular video game Fortnite and creator of the Unreal Engine graphics software that is popular with Hollywood, has raised $2 billion in a new fundraising round from Sony Group Corp. and KIRKBI, the owner of the Lego toy and entertainment brand. Epic says it will use the cash infusion to work with its investors and “create new social entertainment exploring the connection between digital and physical worlds.” Yes, it’s about the metaverse. Sony and KIRKBI will each contribute $1 billion in the round, which values Epic at $31.5 billion. Epic last raised cash in May of last year at a $28.7 billion valuation. The Fortnite developer announced it is acquiring Bandcamp, “an online music store and community where fans can discover, connect with, and directly support the independent musicians they love.” Epic Games decided to drop a bag for the company claiming it “will play an important role in Epic’s vision to build out a creator marketplace ecosystem for content, technology, games, art, music and more.” Epic Games shared no details in the announcement about how much it paid for Bandcamp or when the two entities will finalize the deal. Fortnite Creator Epic Games Acquires Bandcamp

Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite and Unreal Engine, is reportedly acquiring popular music platform Bandcamp. The acquisition is the latest move in the gaming juggernaut’s foray into the music creator economy. This afternoon, Bandcamp shared a blog post penned by Ethan Diamond, its co-founder and CEO, announcing that the company is joining the Epic Games family. Neither Epic Games nor Bandcamp have disclosed financial details, but key infrastructure moves have come to light.
