James Gunn Originally Wanted Superman to be Villain in ‘The Suicide Squad’

Following the success of The Suicide Squad, James Gunn has revealed some new unrevealed details for his standalone sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad. During his recent appearance on the podcast Script Apart, Gunn discussed the evolution of his script for The Suicide Squad. The director interestingly revealed, “There was a time when I thought The Suicide Squad should fight Superman,” adding why Starro the Conqueror was a better antagonist choice. “I thought that was a very interesting story. Then I came up with Starro. He’s a character I love from the comics. I think he’s a perfect comic book character because he’s absolutely ludicrous but also very scary in his own way. What he does is scary. He used to scare the crap out of me when I was a child, putting those facehuggers on Superman and Bat...

Disney+ Surpasses Expectations To Hit 116 Million Subscribers

Disney has once again hit a new milestone with its very own Disney+ streaming service, beating out the Wall Street-expected 112.8 million subscribers to now boast 116 million subscribers globally after adding another 12.4 million during the third quarter of 2021 ending July 3. The new achievement comes even after Disney increased the price of its service by a dollar to now $7.99 USD a month back in March. Revenues also surpassed expectations, with the media giant recording a 45 percent growth year over year. The company’s CFO Christine McCarthy attributes much of the new subscriber success to Disney+ Hotstar, a streaming service specifically catered to India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, accounting for almost 40 percent of the 116 million. Despite the strong numbers, Variety poin...

The Walt Disney Company has reportedly found a way to “fairly compensate” its talent irrespective of a movie’s release arrangement. Disney CEO Bob Chapek shared the news during a recent earnings call and arrives just shortly after Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow lawsuit. “Since COVID has begun, we’ve entered hundreds of talent arrangements with our talent and by and large, they’ve gone very very smoothly, so we expect that that would be the case going forward,” he said, adding that, without naming Johansson or the Marvel film, the Walt Disney Company is “trying to do the best thing for all our constituents and make sure that everybody whose in the value chain … feels like they’re having their contractual commitments honored both from a distribution and a compensation standpoint.” Johansso...

When asked how his stand-up was related to his role on the Disney+ series, Burr told the story of Mike Binder’s birthday party, where he met up with Jon Favreau. Burr goes into the conversation they had and shared, “[Favreau] said, ‘Hey, we’re writing this thing. We kind of have you in mind. Do you want to do it?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know, Jon. I have teased Star Wars people a lot.’ He goes, ‘I know. I listen to the podcast a lot. I think it would be funny if you got in it.’ My wife was kicking me under the table and I wa...

Quentin Tarantino’s Mother Responds to Her Son’s Vow to Never Give Her Any of His Film Earnings

Famed Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino recently made a statement, promising that his mother would never receive a “penny” from his film successes. Tarantino was inspired to pursue a career that involved screenwriting at an early age, but since it was difficult for him to focus at school, his mother, Connie Zastoupil was not too thrilled with him focusing so much on his “little writing career.” Clearly, still holding onto his mother’s words, Tarantino vowed that she “will never see one penny from [his] success.” Now, his mother has come out with her own statement, responding to Tarantino’s claim, “Regarding my son Quentin—I support him, I’m proud of him and love him and his growing new family. It gave me great joy to dance at his wedding and receive his news upon the birth of my grandso...

The highly-anticipated return of Donald Glover and FX‘s Atlanta is still set for early 2022, however an exact date is still unconfirmed. According to reports, FX chairman John Landgraf shared that they “haven’t locked down the scheduling for Season 3 yet” because it just finished shooting, with filming primarily done in Europe. “It’s in post-production and it’s a lengthy post-production process, and part of that is because they’re currently in production of Season 4 in Atlanta,” he explained. “All the scripts for that season have been written, and I absolutely adore the scripts for both seasons.” Landgra added, “The reason I can’t lock down a date right now is that it’s being driven by Donald Glover and Hiro Morai’s schedule and availability and the length of post, both for Season 3 w...
