Next week marks the 20th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (a movie that was recently added to the National Film Registry). To celebrate the film’s milestone early, Stephen Colbert put together a nerdy rap tribute that inexplicably features Jon Batiste, Method Man, and Killer Mike, alongside movie stars Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Andy Serkis, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, and Hugo Weaving. Colbert, of course, raps, too. It’s called “#1 Trilly” and you can check it out below. Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile made their TV debut last night (December 15) as the musical guests on Late Night With Seth Meyers. They delivered a performance of “Mystery” and “T.L.C. (Turnstile Love Connection)” from their album Glow On and made good on their tongue-in-cheek lyric “You really gotta see it live to get it” in the process. Check it out below. Turnstile recently announced a lengthy North American tour in support of their new record. After performing in Europe at the start of 2022, the band will play two shows in California and then perform across the states on through the summer. Bobby Shmurda has recruited Quavo and Rowdy Rebel for a new track titled “Shmoney” (not to be confused with Rowdy Rebel and Shmurda’s 2014 track “Shmoney Dance”). Check out a video for the new single below. Bobby Shmurda released the comeback single “No Time for Sleep (Freestyle)” in September, following his February release from prison, a sentence into which he’s said he’d been forced. He’s released two other singles since: “Splash” and “Cartier Lens.” Rowdy Rebel joined Pressa on “Dead Body” last month, following February’s “Jesse Owens” with Nav. Quavo and his Migos cohort most recently collaborated with Jim Jones for “We Set the Trends.” Content This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.
Caroline Polachek and Christine and the Queens will join Charli XCX on Saturday Night Live this week, a detail they revealed on social media a day ahead of the performance. They released “New Shapes” together last month. Paul Rudd hosts the episode tomorrow night (December 18), the last SNL of 2021. Charli’s SNL cohort will also include Luis Aponte, the drummer for Philadelphia-based hardcore act Jesus Piece, as Stereogum notes. He caught the attention of Charli’s management team through video of Jesus Piece performing at a Pennsylvania VFW hall over the summer. Prior to “New Shapes,” Charli released the single “Good Ones” in September. She’s also revealed that her next record is titled Crash, and it’s out March 18.
Legendary electronic music producer Sven Väth has announced Catharsis, his first album in almost 20 years. Revered as a pathfinder in techno and ambient music, Väth’s decades-long influence on the electronic music scene is matched by few. And despite 19-year gap between Catharsis and his last album, 2002’s Fire, it’s obvious that Väth is still very much a techno aesthete: “All my touring, intense experiences, incredible people. Life moving fast,” Väth wrote in an announcement shared via social media. “Catharsis came gushing out as I slowed down. It was almost an out of body experience. Mystic pauses. Time to reflect. Every track on this record came from accumulated moments and emotions finding their voice.” After its scheduled release...

For 21-year-old Imad, his latest single, “Makan” (with Samia), goes far beyond your basic melodic techno track. Instead, the hauntingly atmospheric song was rewritten by the Lebanese and Nigerian artist after the devastating explosion in Beirut last August. It translates to “place” in Arabic. “That was a turning point for a lot of people in the country, as the general economic, social and quality of life in Lebanon had been rapidly declining,” said Imad, who splits his time between Beirut and London, in a press release. “[Samia and I] dedicated it to the relationship a lot of us have with Lebanon.” Recommended Articles The resulting version of “Makan,” which was originally composed as Imad’s submission for entry into P...
