After announcing that a remix album for Above & Beyond‘s seminal Group Therapy was on the way earlier this month, the group have finally unveiled the record with the help of a stacked roster of artists recreating some of their most iconic songs. Opening with CRi’s emotive remix of “Filmic,” the album quickly shifts gears with a fast-paced rework of “Sun & Moon” by trance music luminary Ilan Bluestone. This dynamic and swift change is mirrored by H...
Seven Lions is closing the year out strong, tapping Atlys to reimagine a number of his biggest hits in Opus, a new album of orchestral renditions. Although the idea of Opus isn’t something fans often yearn for, it’s an idea that fits perfectly into Seven Lions’s discography and aesthetic. His mystical world-building has long seemed like it could spawn an orchestral album and the one he’s released alongside Atlys, out now via his own Ophelia Records imprint, is perfectly executed. Seven Lions and Atlys have done a remarkable job at recreating some of his most prized tracks. “Only Now (in E Minor)” remains just as dynamic and moving as its predecessor, though stirs up completely new emotions. However, “The Blood (in E Minor” is the most ra...
A new one-stop-shop for dubstep has launched to shake up the way you search for new music. 140 Plates is a new digital marketplace founded by esteemed DUPLOC label head Pieter Grauwels. The platform only hosts music at or around 140 BPM, including dubstep, trap and grime, allowing DJs to eschew sifting through the convoluted categories of its larger competing marketplaces and dig right into the types of music they’re looking for. 140 Plates Additionally, this method of searching could help DJs expand their horizons, as they may find something that fits their niche while crate-digging on the platform. This is bolstered by 140 Plates’ “explore” feature. When users click on the tab, they are able to choose from tracks or releases as well as how long ago the s...

Nirvana is firing back at a recent lawsuit that claims the band violated child pornography laws with the iconic image of a nude baby on the cover of Nevermind, blasting the case as “not serious” and saying it was filed years too late. The lawsuit made headlines in August when it was filed by Spencer Elden, the now-30-year-old man who appeared in the image as a baby. He claims that the 1991 album cover — one of the most famous in rock and roll history — amounted to “commercial sexual exploitation” of a minor. In the band’s first formal response to the lawsuit, Nirvana said Wednesday that Elden’s case has a fatal-flaw: It was filed years after the statute of limitations had run out, by a man who had long embraced the image. “Elden has spent three decades profiting from his celebrity as the s...
