In the midst of her North American tour, Alice Glass has shared a new one-off single called “Lips Apart.” The new track arrives over half a year after Glass delivered her solo debut full-length, PREY//IV. “Lips Apart” is haunting and sweeping, relatively minimalist over a thudding, industrial beat and creeping electronics. Producer by Jupiter io and Matt Rad, the track depicts a lonely, broken Glass as she sings, “Is this the way it hurts/ Is this the way it happens/ Is this the way, I don’t feel anything/ Lips apart.” Glass has been performing the song live for a few years now, and those who have caught her recent shows likely are already familiar with the cut. You can listen to the final studio version of “Lips Apart” below, and get a chance to hear it live by picking up tickets to Alice...
Jamie xx has returned with the disco-infused “KILL DEM,” his second new song of the year. Take a listen to the track below. Backed by a shuffling, dance floor-ready beat, “KILL DEM” was inspired by the Notting Hill Carnival, a long-running annual Caribbean festival that Jamie began attending as a teenager growing up in London. The event is known for its vibrant parade, booming sound systems, and lively parties, all of which you can sense in the energy of the track. “I started making [“KILL DEM”] at a time when we weren’t sure when we were going to be able to do stuff,” Jamie said in a press release. “I was looking forward to the day when I could get back to what I love. It was one of those ones that happens quite instantly and that’s kind of rare for me these days. It happened within almos...

Taking place at Los Angeles Historic State Park last weekend (September 16th-...

And though their bubbly vision of pop in their 2021 debut album Mercurial World — which is set to receive a deluxe edition on September 23rd — is a fascinating foray into their sound, it’s also a celebration of the music they grew up on. Magdalena Bay’s concoctio...
Noga Erez has polished up her early summer single “Nails” with a new remix featuring Missy Elliott. Stream the shredding new rendition below. The track begins with the familiar finger-tap rhythm from the original Rousso production along with Noga Erez’s hypnotic hook, “I’ll bump a bitch/ Flesh pieces in my nails.” Missy Elliott picks it up from there and goes on a tear: “See these nails these acrylics/ Try miss I go ballistic/ You step to Miss I’mma give you ten licks.” After sharpening up the shout-out-loud chorus together, the two trade hometown lines with Missy’s “I’m from VA/ We don’t play that down South,” followed by the Israeli singer’s reply, “I’m from TA/ Missy you should check it out.” Advertisement Related Video The collaboration is a long time coming for Erez, who admitted in a...
One of the primary visual inspirations for Mura Masa‘s album demon time was none other than Sonic the Hedgehog. “There was an image of Sonic the Hedgehog that I had remembered seeing years ago and I was like, ‘That seems like a cool pose,’” says the songwriter and producer born Alex Crossan. “He’s got this circular look, his shoes are kind of bending around… it became a muse of mine.” The image was so influential for Crossan that he recreated it for demon time‘s album cover — but beyond the contorted, warped aesthetic, Crossan was drawn to the “joyfulness” he’s projecting, the frenetic ecstasy that Sonic embodies. With demon time (out Friday, September 16th), Crossan had a simple objective: create something fun. But “fun” is still a bit of a vague descriptor — for an electronic ...
Brian Eno has shared “We Let It In,” the latest preview of his upcoming solo album, FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE. Featuring backing vocals from his daughter Darla Eno, “We Let It In” follows in the footsteps of the first single “There Were Bells” by continuing to address the global climate emergency. As Darla Eno alternates between chanting the words “sun” and “deep,” Brian Eno sings in a lowered delivery reflecting the morose subject matter: “We open to the blinding sky and let it in/ With open hearts through burning fields/ The soul of it in gorgeous flame.” The accompanying lyric video was co-directed by Eno with London-based multidisciplinary artist Orfeo Tagiuri and features handwriting by Eno’s granddaughter Anya. Police in Grant County, Washington believe they may have stopped a mass shooting Friday night (August 19th) during the Bass Canyon Music Festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre. The county sheriff’s department later identified the suspect as 31-year-old Jonathan R. Moody of Ephrata, a town about 100 miles east of Spokane. Witnesses said they saw Moody inhale an unknown substance or gas from a balloon inside his car before loading two 9mm pistols. With one pistol concealed in the rear of his waistband and the other in an outside-the-waistband holster, Moody then began approaching concertgoers, asking what time the concert ended and where people would be exiting the venue. Venue security detained Moody; he was not trying to enter the festival and wasn’t wearing a wristband. After investigation, p...
