Animal Collective’s Avey Tare has announced his latest solo album, 7s, will be released on February 17th via Domino. What’s more, he’s mapped out a spring solo tour (grab your tickets here) and shared the lead singles “The Musical” and “Hey Bog.” The new set, which is Dave Portner’s fourth studio effort solely as Avey Tare, was recorded in his hometown of Asheville, North Carolina with producer Adam McDaniel. The project began with home studio sessions in Fall 2020 following the completion of Animal Collective’s Time Skiffs, and he later linked up with McDaniel to help populate what he describes in a statement as the album’s “dreamy, surrealist landscape.” Portner has provided the first glimpses of his new project with the dual release of album cuts “The Musical” and “Hey Bog,” which arriv...
Everything But the Girl — the prolific pop duo best known for their 1994 club hit “Missing” — will return on April 21st with Fuse, their first studio album in 24 years. Ahead of its release, Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn have shared the record’s first single “Nothing Left to Lose” today. The English music duo went on an amicable, indefinite hiatus in 2000, choosing to go out on a natural high note. Their re-emergence appears to have come about just as organically: “Ironically the finished sound of the new album was the last thing on our mind when we started in March 2021,” Thorn said in a press release. “Of course, we were aware of the pressures of such a long-awaited comeback, so we tried to begin instead in a spirit of open-minded playfulness, uncertain of the direction, receptive to in...

He gave proper meaning and message to our music. ” “He was also a lovely human being with time for everyone and a wisdom that was both profound and accessible. Former Dirty Projectors multi-instrumentalist Angel Deradoorian and current Glintshake singer Kate NV have formed a new project called Decisive Pink. To mark their signing to Fire Records, they’ve shared their debut single, “Haffmilch Holiday.” Listen to the duo’s first track below. Both Deradoorian and Kate NV are known for playing guitar, but Decisive Pink build their sound through the layering of modular synthesizers. “Haffmilch Holiday” hearkens back to the earliest electronic music, with a few initial computerized beeps giving way to robotic percussion and reverb-drenched vocals. The single was inspired by Decisive Pink’s time recording their debut album in Köln, where every morning they would walk to a local coffee shop and order haffmilch cappuccino. In a statement, Decisive Pink ex...
Justice have announced a deluxe 15th anniversary reissue of their debut album †. It’s due out December 15th via Ed Banger Records/Because Music, and they’re previewing its release today with Logic’s remix of their breakout single “D.A.N.C.E.” The deluxe edition of † comprises the original 2007 album, which includes highlights like “Genesis,” “Phantom Pt. II,” and “DVNO.” It also features an additional six bonus rarities, a handful of demos, and the first proper release of album outtake “Donna.” If Logic’s version of “D.A.N.C.E.” sounds familiar to you, that’s probably because the rapper actually shared a recording of the track back in 2012 titled “The Spotlight.” Logic was still a relatively new name at the time, which explains why the lyrics here focus on him adjusting to fame: “Now ...
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert had a particularly exciting episode on Tuesday night: Friend of the program Jon Stewart stopped by for an always-welcome appearance, then LCD Soundsystem played the show out with a rousing rendition of their new single, “New Body Rhumba.” “New Body Rhumba,” which appears in Noah Baumbach’s film White Noise, marks LCD Soundsytem’s first song since their 2017 album American Dream. James Murphy’s band recently appeared in Meet Me in the Bathroom, the documentary adaptation of Lizzy Goodman’s oral history of the early 2000s New York City rock scene. The group will return to Brooklyn Steel for another 20-night residency later this week; tickets are on sale here. As for Stewart, he and Colbert touched on a variety of topics, from their two-d...
What items would you bring with you to a deserted island? It’s a classic question, and now we have Rick Rubin’s answer: the super-producer appeared on a new episode of the BBC show Desert Island Discs, and he chose tracks by The Beatles, LCD Soundsystem, Simon & Garfunkel, and more to tide him over in complete isolation. For track number one, Rubin pointed to The Beatles’ “Across the Universe,” which he said not only taught him the basics of songwriting, but inspired him to learn how to meditate. “From three years old to seven years old, The Beatles was everywhere, and everywhere in my home,” he recalled. “And it somehow imprinted what a great song is, in a very deep level, before I knew that I was looking for what that was.” Skipping ahead a few decades, Rubin chose LCD Soundsystem’s ...

It had already been postponed from February and March this year to September and October, which...
LCD Soundsystem are back with their first new song in five years. James Murphy and company have today shared “New Body Rhumba,” their contribution to the soundtrack for Noah Baumbach’s upcoming film White Noise. The black comedy-horror stars Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig as a married couple whose idyllic life is thwarted by disaster. White Noise comes out in select theaters starting November 25th before it hits Netflix December 30th. “New Body Rhumba” is LCD’s first new music since their 2017 album American Dream, which arrived a whopping seven years after its predecessor This Is Happening. So, while we’d love if this meant there’s a new LCD album on the way, we’re just happy enough to get a one-off single from the indie veterans. Listen to “New Body Rhumba” below. Though LCD...
M.I.A. has always been an outspoken, boundary-pushing artist, and she’s no different on new single “BEEP.” Listen to the track below. “You can be who you wanna be,” goes the hook in “BEEP,” a short, slinky song rife with exotic percussion. Doing what she wants has always been M.I.A.’s MO, and she remains unbothered by that fact here: “I tried to tell you all what will happen to you/ I tried to make you see I was telling the truth/ I was tryna be everything you want me to be/ I can’t please everyone/ Imma let it BEEP BEEP,” she raps. No word on if the single’s “Be free” message is about vaccines, though. “BEEP” will appear on M.I.A.’s upcoming album MATA, which has yet to receive a release date. So far, however, the musician has previewed the project with the singles “The One” and “Popular....
