Diplo Under Criminal Investigation Following Allegations of Sexual Misconduct: Report
The Los Angeles city attorney’s office is investigating allegations of sexual misconduct against Thomas Wesley Pentz, also known by his stage name Diplo, according to a Buzzfeed News report. The city is mulling charges of invasion of privacy and intentionally spreading a sexually transmitted infection. The investigation is rooted in a 2020 complaint to the LAPD, in which a 25-year-old woman accused Diplo of knowingly giving her chlamydia, recording sexually explicit videos of her without her consent, and distributing at least one of those videos. Consequence has reached out to LA city attorney Mike Feur for comment. Arca Announces New Album KICK ii, Shares “Born Yesterday” Featuring Sia: Stream
A new album from Arca is on the horizon. Today, the Venezuelan musician announced the follow-up to her stunning fourth album KiCk i, titled KICK ii. It’s due out December 3rd via XL, and as a preview, Arca has shared the album’s lead single “Born Yesterday,” which features guest vocals from Sia. KICK ii is the latest entry in Arca’s KiCk series, which was “conceived to represent the multiple self-states that exist” within the subversive pop artist. Aside from Sia, the 12-track project will feature collaborations from Cardopusher, Boys Noize, Mica Levi, Jenius Level, Wondagurl, and Cubeatz. The electro-pop artist has announced a new EP called Peace and Offerings, due out October 29th. As another preview, Katy B has shared the single “Open Wound,” which features R&B singer Jaz Karis. While she staked her claim in the UK’s electronic scene with glossy, heavy production in the 2010s, Peace and Offerings takes a chill pill, instead recalling wine nights at home with close friends. Arca has dropped the new single, “Incendio,” as part of the promotion for a benefit concert film. “Vistiendo de cuero/ Quemando ese cuerpo/ Bruja/ Chupándome los huesos/ Bien espeso eso es hueso/ Eso, eso, hey, hey,” the electronic artist also known as Alejandra Ghersi sings over industrial production. Avicii is being memorialized with a new documentary. The estate of the late Swedish producer born Tim Bergling has announced a forthcoming film that will delve into the “music and the artist who defined an era and changed the world of music forever.” Few details have been unveiled as of yet, but you can expect a release sometime in 2023. According to a statement, the new Avicii documentary “is an up-close, intimate, and epic story about his unparalleled successes and his struggles to cope with the pressure.” It’s set to include never-before-seen footage, as well as interviews with Bergling’s family, colleagues, friends, and even Bergling himself. After nearly two decades away, what better time for Sneaker Pimps to return than in 2021? Today, the cult trip-hop band return with their long-awaited fourth studio album, Squaring the Circle, out now via Orphic. Squaring the Circle was written, performed, and produced by founding members Sneaker Pimps members Chris Corner and Liam Howe. It spans 16 tracks total, many of which feature guest vocals from Berlin-based singer Simonne Jones. The album was recorded between Sawtooth Studios in Pioneertown, California, and London’s Tower Studios. John Carpenter Goes on a “Rampage” in New Song from Halloween Kills: Stream
John Carpenter and his musical collaborators, son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, have unleashed the new song “Rampage.” It’s the latest preview of the Halloween Kills soundtrack, which arrives October 15th alongside the film. “Rampage” is a sinister slow burn, using skittering synth loops and anxious drums to build tension. If the title is accurate, the actual killing may start around the 1:10 mark, when a very loud and heavy chord falls on the track like an axe blow. The menace intensifies around 2:30, and one can imagine the bodies piling up. But the denouement is a relatively calm affair, perhaps suggesting that someone — good or bad — got away. Back in 2018, the Swedish DJ-turned-EDM superstar Avicii tragically died by suicide. He was just 28 years old, and his unexpected death shook not just the electronic scene, but the music industry as a whole. The freshly remastered version of the landmark effort is slated for a September 24th release via Island.
