Sneaker Pimps Return with Squaring the Circle, First New Album in 19 Years: Stream
After nearly two decades away, what better time for Sneaker Pimps to return than in 2021? Today, the cult trip-hop band return with their long-awaited fourth studio album, Squaring the Circle, out now via Orphic. Squaring the Circle was written, performed, and produced by founding members Sneaker Pimps members Chris Corner and Liam Howe. It spans 16 tracks total, many of which feature guest vocals from Berlin-based singer Simonne Jones. The album was recorded between Sawtooth Studios in Pioneertown, California, and London’s Tower Studios. John Carpenter Goes on a “Rampage” in New Song from Halloween Kills: Stream
John Carpenter and his musical collaborators, son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, have unleashed the new song “Rampage.” It’s the latest preview of the Halloween Kills soundtrack, which arrives October 15th alongside the film. “Rampage” is a sinister slow burn, using skittering synth loops and anxious drums to build tension. If the title is accurate, the actual killing may start around the 1:10 mark, when a very loud and heavy chord falls on the track like an axe blow. The menace intensifies around 2:30, and one can imagine the bodies piling up. But the denouement is a relatively calm affair, perhaps suggesting that someone — good or bad — got away. Avicii Honored with Google Doodle During National Suicide Prevention Week
Back in 2018, the Swedish DJ-turned-EDM superstar Avicii tragically died by suicide. He was just 28 years old, and his unexpected death shook not just the electronic scene, but the music industry as a whole. Now, in honor of this year’s National Suicide Prevention Week, the late Avicii is the subject of a new Google Doodle to help raise awareness. Check out the animation below. DJ Shadow is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his debut album, Endtroducing….., with a new vinyl reissue. The freshly remastered version of the landmark effort is slated for a September 24th release via Island. Originally released on September 16th, 1996, the LP featured singles like “Midnight in a Perfect World,” “Stem,” “What Does Your Soul Look Like (Part 1),” and “The Number Song”/”Painkiller.” The album initially caught on in the UK, where the American producer had established himself as a rising act, before eventually reaching a wider audience in Shadow’s home country. Mark Lanegan and The Icarus Line‘s Joe Cardamone have announced the eponymous debut album for their recording project Dark Mark vs. Skeleton Joe. They’ve also shared the song “No Justice” ahead of the LP’s October 15th release date. The song presents a pulsing electronic sound paired with Lanegan’s imitably deep vocal delivery. Minimal dancefloor beats and synthesizers percolate beneath the grunge veteran’s mix of spoken word and singing. The Haitian-Canadian electronic artist has announced a 2021 North American tour, and you can check out the complete list of dates below. Beginning with a gig in Los Angeles, California on August 24th, Kaytranada’s upcoming tour will see him stopping in Seattle, San Diego, Brooklyn, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Boston, and other major cities later the fall. The trek will come to an end on December 30th in Toronto, Ontario. After a three-year run as Minister for Housing and Local Government in Wales, she’s now that UK country’s first-ever Minister for Climate Change. James spoke about her life, her goals in office, and her famous brother in an interview with the BBC’s Walescast podcast. Beggars Arkive to Release Gary Numan Vinyl Box Set of 15 Singles
Beggars Arkive has unveiled a long-awaited collection of Gary Numan’s hit singles in a brand-new box set, The Singles Collection 1978-1983. The 15 singles and accompanying B-sides span the electronic pioneer’s work from 1978 through 1983, exclusively on translucent vinyl in red, blue, and green. Each set comes complete with a white vinyl DJ case as well as a 64-page tri-color booklet featuring “front and back sleeve images, notes, recording and original release information for each single plus and archival images,” according to a release.
