Vin Diesel Still Doing the Music Thing on Second Dance Single “Days Are Gone”: Stream

Last month, Vin Diesel made his music debut with a single called “Feel Like I Do”. The tropical house track saw the Fast & Furious star trade in his tough guy exterior for something a little more relaxed and vacation-ready. Proving the song wasn’t just a one-time fluke, Diesel is back now with a second offering, “Days Are Gone”. Not to be confused with that very good HAIM album, today’s single continues to scream “DJ Dom Toretto in a Hawaiian shirt”. Like its predecessor, “Days Are Gone” is out through Palm Tree Records, the label co-founded by Kygo, who has all but mastered the tropical house genre for island-hopping millennials. It was also co-written by Diesel, Kygo collaborator Petey Martin, and Noah McBeth (a.k.a. NoMBe). Stream it down below. “Something about 2020 led me to this ...

Oneohtrix Point Never Releases New Album Magic Oneohtrix Point Never: Stream

Daniel Lopatin has returned with the latest album as Oneohtrix Point Never, an expansive 17-track collection called Magic Oneohtrix Point Never. Stream the full thing below via Apple Music and Spotify. Magic Oneohtrix Point Never gets its name from the same place that Lopatin got the 0PN moniker itself: the radio station Magic 106.7 that aired in his Boston area home. As such, the album plays out much like a radio station’s dayparts, clicking on for the morning drive-time music, and closing with the late night jams. The record is broken up four different suites, each split by a “Cross Talk” section. Prior to the album’s full release, 0PN shared the “Drive Time Suite” (“Cross Talk I”, “Auto & Allo”, and “Long Road Home” featuring Caroline Polachek) and the five-track “Midday S...

Oneohtrix Point Never (photo by David Brandon Geeting) and The Weeknd (photo by Natalie Somekh) The latest album from Daniel Lopatin’s Oneohtrix Point Never project is set to drop this Friday — just in time for Halloween. Entitled Magic Oneohtrix Point Never, the album was first teased with the three-song “Drive Time Suite”, which included the Caroline Polachek-featuring track “Long Road Home”. Today, OPN has unveiled another block of songs, the “Midday Suite”, which boasts another major guest collaborator in The Weeknd. The five individual tracks that make up “Midday Suite” are entitled “Cross Talk II”, “I Don’t Love Me Anymore”, “Bow Ecco”, “The Whether Channel”, and “No Nightmares”. It’s on that latter song, a dreamy power ballad fit for an ’80s cinematic romance, where The Weeknd provi...

Promoters Behind The Chainsmokers’ Packed Hamptons Concert Fined $20,000

Over the summer, The Chainsmokers threw COVID caution to the wind with a “drive-in” concert in the Hamptons. VIP tickets cost upwards of $25,000, which is just $5,000 more than the promoters behind the event will now have to pay in fines to state of New York. Videos from the concert — thrown during peak pandemic back in July — immediately sparked backlash when they started spreading on social media. More than 3,000 attendees had arrived in over 600 vehicles, and they clearly weren’t staying within their designated parking perimeters. Even worse, most appeared to be gleefully flouting mask requirements. The New York State Department of Health launched an investigation into the concert over violations of its COVID-19 safety regulations. Today, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the event’s...

James Blake Surprise Releases New EP Before: Stream

As announced just 24 hours ago today, James Blake has released a new EP called Before. Stream it below via Spotify. Before follows Blake’s 2019 full-length Assume Form and spans four tracks in total. As the title suggests, the London musician revisits his early work in dance club music — the same era that spawned his self-titled debut LP, one of the best albums of the 2010s — for this new project from the comfort of his home studio in Los Angeles. According to Blake, most of the material was recorded in 2020 in between covering popular songs. A handful of notable guests are featured on Before. Composer Nico Muhly provided guest assistance, as did Mount Kimbie, who previously partnered with Blake and slowthai on last month’s “Feel Away”. Blake also tapped Erick Arc Elliott, who he worked al...

Vin Diesel Goes EDM on Debut Single “Feel Like I Do”: Stream

With quarantine still in full swing and Fast & Furious 9 delayed until next year, what’s Vin Diesel to do with his spare time? Apparently get really into EDM. Today, the 53-year-old actor has released his debut single, a clubby track titled “Feel Like I Do”. Though it may be amusing to think about Groot hitting the dance floor, Diesel’s new song is more in line with Kygo and Flume — it’s a forever summer tune for the celebrity Coachella crowd. And it makes perfect sense given the personnel working behind the scenes; “Feel Like I Do” was written by Kygo collaborator Petey Martin and released via the Kygo co-founded Palm Tree Records. “For so long, I have been promising to release music… encouraged by you, to step out of my comfort zone,” Diesel wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for believi...

Four Tet Remixes Caribou’s “Never Come Back”: Stream

Before recording his latest album, Suddenly, Caribou (aka Dan Snaith) had a collection of some 900 song ideas. As he told our own Kyle Meredith, he relied on friend and fellow electronic artist Four Tet (aka Kieran Hebden) as something of a sounding board to help whittle that stack of demos down to the album’s final 12 tracks. Now, Snaith has handed one of those songs, “Never Come Back”, back to Hebden to put his own spin on with a remix. The remix was originally debuted during Four Tet’s recent Boiler Room: Streaming from Isolation set. Where Caribou’s original version is a springy dance club number, Four Tet’s take pushes it into rave territory. The eight-minute rendition is ginned up with the type of synth squiggles that have lighting designers fantasizing about all sorts of laser beams...

Moog Announces New Subharmonicon Analog Synthesizer, Shares Musical Score by Suzanne Ciani

Moog has unveiled its new analog synthesizer, the Subharmonicon. The instrument finally arrives on the consumer market after a prototype version was teased during a workshop at Moogfest, the company’s curated music festival, in 2018. To commemorate the occasion, Moog shared a short film, Music as Living Matter, featuring a score by electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani, composed entirely with the Subharmonicon. The hype is well deserved. The early models used during Moogfest sold for thousands on the second hand market, leaving artists and hobbyists wondering when the instrument would see an official rollout, much like Moog’s Werkstaat. The latest evolution in Moog’s arsenal of semi-modular analog synths, the Subharmonicon offers a limitless creative portal worthy of the iconic brand. To ...
