Lagos bye-election: PDP clears six aspirants, holds primaries Sept 5

File Photo The Peoples Democratic Party has fixed September 5 for its primary elections for the Lagos East Senatorial district and Kosofe Constituency II House of Assembly. The spokesperson for the party in Lagos, Mr Taofik Gani, made this known in a statement on Wednesday. Gani said all the necessary logistics had been put in place by the party to ensure a hitch-free exercise. He explained that the party had cleared four aspirants to contest for the party’s ticket in a primary election for the Lagos East Senatorial district and two aspirants for the Kosofe II House of Assembly in Lagos. IG orders Edo, Ondo CPs to review preparations ahead of elections

The Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the Edo and Ondo states Commissioners of Police (CPs) to rejig preparations ahead of the governorship elections coming up in the states. The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr Frank Mba, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. He said the order was to accommodate and address the threats and emerging trends as contained in the Election Security Threat Assessment Reports. Mba said the IG gave the order after reviewing the assessment reports submitted by the CPs from Edo and Ondo states ahead of the elections slated for Sept. 19 and Oct. 10 respectively. INEC: No going back on Edo, Ondo elections

National Commissioner and chairman information and Voters Education Committee of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Festus Okoye, has said there is no alternative to the peaceful conduct of the governorship election in Edo and Ondo states. He said failure to do so will leave both states with constitutional logjam that would be difficult to resolve. Mali: ECOWAS to hold emergency meeting

The Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) will on Thursday hold an Extraordinary Summit on the socio-political situation in Mali. The Directorate of Communications of the ECOWAS Commission made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja. The summit would be held virtually through video conference. The summit became necessary following the military coup d’etat that took place in the Republic of Mali on Tuesday. INEC approves new policy framework for Edo, Ondo states

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday approved a new policy framework known as Policy on Conducting Elections in the Context of COVID-19 Pandemic. The commission, in a statement issued by Mr Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, in Abuja said the policy document would be released on May 25.
