Nigerian government urges increased awareness on violence against women, girls

The Federal Government on Thursday called for increased awareness on violence against women and girls aimed at ending the scourge. Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, Wife of the Vice President and founder, The Women’s Helping Hands Initiative, made the call at the launch of “Orange the World with Doctors,” in Abuja. Orange the World with Doctors is a plenary with medical practitioners initiated by UN Population Fund (UNFPA) aimed at ending Gender Based Violence (GBV) with doctors at the forefront. Minister: Nigeria needs N1.89 trillion to eradicate malaria

The federal government has said that it will require N1.89 trillion to successfully implement the new five-year strategic plan aimed at eradicating malaria in Nigeria. It said that about N352 billion out of the amount is required for the year 2021 programme implementation. In his address to mark this year’s World Malaria Day, the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, said the target set out in the National Malaria Strategic Plan of 2021 to 2025 is to achieve less than 10 per cent parasite prevalence and reduction in mortality attributable to malaria to less than 50 deaths per 1,000 live births by 2025. Nigerian government coronavirus vaccine has mild side effect

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, has pointed out that the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine has a mild side effect. Ehanire explained that those vaccinated may experience “small pain” in the area it was injected. He disclosed this after the vaccination of President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo, at the State House, yesterday. Ehanire, however, stated that the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be painless. He said: “The process itself is simple. Post-UTME: UNIBEN promises to comply with coronavirus protocols

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) says it is ready to comply with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols on Coronavirus (COVID-19), ahead of its Post University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post–UTME) scheduled for Dec. 2. Dr Benedicta Ehanire, Public Relations Officer of the university, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Benin. She said “The University of Benin has provided hand sanitisers and buckets of water in each examination centre, following the Federal Government directive.” Ehanire also said the university was fully prepared in terms of security, adding that face masks are compulsory for candidates writing the examination. Nigeria ratifies membership of AfCFTA

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, on Wednesday ratified Nigeria’s membership of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA, as the implementation of the agreement formally takes-off on January 1, 2021. This is as the Council has approved N62.7 billion for the construction of Kano-Dawakin-Tofa-Gwarzo-Dariyo road in Kano.
