As music festivals return at full tilt after a brutal pandemic, there’s no better time to live the high life. Enter The Roll Up Festival, a three-day event combining cannabis culture, music and Earth Day celebrations. It’s essentially an adult playground with carnival attractions, rides, ball-pits, car shows, professional wrestling sideshows and—of course–lots of munchies. The Roll Up Festival is scheduled for April 15-17 at the Three County Fairgrounds in Northampton, Massachusetts. The fest will feature three stages, each of which have their own unique production to express its commitment to earth consciousness and environmental awareness. In honor of the return of Amsterdam Dance Event, organizers have unveiled a new mini-documentary inspired by the spirit of the music that fuels the influential gathering. Titled Dance Is a Rave-olution, the documentary is fleshed out through footage of the 2021 edition of the music conference and its many parties. Emphasizing freedom of expression, the short film features appearances from Honey Dijon, Octo Octa, Hyperaktivist, Colin Benders, Luke Slater and more. Through a combination of show footage and voiceover storytelling, the beauty of club culture is explored by the meaningful connections and unforgettable memories it engenders. In some kind of raunchy, techno-fueled twist on West Side Story, the first-ever EDM musical is primed for the silver screen. “We were bored, angry, horny students watching the best years of our lives slip away, so we were just like, f**k it, let’s make a musical,” said Will Wightman, who wrote and directed Heart Failure, an upcoming short film produced by award-winning independent video production company Cool Bean. According to a press release shared with EDM.com, Heart Failure, which features an original soundtrack comprising electronic dance music, is the first of its kind. The film follows Frank, whose rollicking, hysterical one-night stand with Lizzie leads to a complex relationship and eventual breakup. In 2022, the safety of women at electronic dance music shows has never been more urgent. The verity of that fact has not been lost on Kayzo. Known for his chaotic blend of dubstep and metal music, the barnstorming DJ has seen his fair share of mosh pits. After an intense pit unfolded at a recent show, he abruptly cut the music during his performance to call out a man who appeared to be shoving women. According to numerous accounts shared on Twitter, Kayzo then called for an all-female mosh pit. Moshing is embedded in U.S. dance music culture, but it sometimes goes too far. And the violent nature of mosh pits forces many women to actively circumnavigate them, often to the point where they’re unable to enjoy the show. Recommended Articles Kayzo went on to publicly condemn the unnamed m...

If music were water, Colorado would never run dry. It’s no secret that Colorado is a hub for electronic music. And its most iconic venue, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, is its biggest purveyor. Celebrated for its natural acoustics, which are made possible by two giant monoliths flanking the amphitheater, the open air venue is one of those ineffable places that consistently manufactures “you had to be there” moments. Ergo, only those who have attended an electronic dance music show at Red Rocks can attest how special it is. Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado.
