There’s nothing that blurs the line between frightening and fascinating quite like artificial intelligence. And since artificial intelligence and electronic music are becoming more symbiotic by the day, the staff here at EDM.com wanted to see just how far it could go in a visual sense. So we came up with bizarre descriptions of artists and fed them through A.I. art generators. Some images are photorealistic. Others are fancifully distorted. And the majority of them are flat-out creepy. But we digress. Read on to see our weird and wonderful creations. Tapping on a CloZee song is like activating a portal. Each track is a gateway to a place on earth or a spiritual realm. Her Neon Jungle album was influenced heavily by CloZee’s time in the lush forests of Costa Rica. The flamenco elements of “Diabólico” originate in southern Spain. Her version of “Baiana” is rooted in the body percussion work and infectious rhythms of the Brazilian group Barbatuques. “Koto” is rife with Japanese influences, particularly the song’s namesake—the country’s national instrument. “A lot of those instruments are really tied to a memory of mine,” CloZee tells EDM.com. “A lot of countries I’ve visited. Like the shamisen or the koto. I really remember so many memories of going throug...

Sad boi emo songs ain’t got nothin’ on dance music. A recent study published in Scientific Reports suggests that dance music can be beneficial to your cognitive health. They studied 51 young adults with an average age of 20, examining the effect of “groove rhythms” on the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for the executive function that dictates our everyday movements and decisions. Conducted by a group of Japanese researchers, the study added that the music doesn’t necessarily have to be electronic dance music, but rather a song with a simple groove that makes you want to get up and dance. “The results were surprising,” Dr. Hideaki Soya, the study’s lead author, told ScienceDaily. “We found tha...

It was a Tuesday night in London when Richard James Burgess found himself on the doorstep of Blitz for the very first time. He was dressed in ripped jeans and a t-shirt, surrounded by people with “amazing clothes and amazing hair.” Unbeknownst to Burgess at the time, that door was, in reality, a gateway that would ultimately lead him to coin the term “electronic dance music” in 1980. It landed him at the forefront of a sonic revolution—one marked by experimentation and a desire to “electrify” the acoustic instruments of the heyday. And it all started out with a drum set and a dream. Richard James Burgess is now the President and CEO of The American Association of Independent Music. c/o American Association of Independent Music Born in London and raised in New Zealand, Burgess was drawn to ...
