10 Years Ago, DJ Fresh’s “Louder” Became the First Dubstep Song to Reach #1

The explosion of UK dubstep dates back to the mid 2000s, when iconic artists such as Skream, Benga, Rusko, and Caspa began making waves in the underground music scene. However, a dubstep track reaching the heights of mainstream popularity was rare, even after DJ Fresh charted with his drum & bass classic “Gold Dust” in 2010. Shortly after, Fresh’s dubstep track “Louder,” featuring Sian Evans, made history by being the first dubstep song to reach the #1 spot on the UK singles charts.  “Louder” vocalist Sian Evans performs at Vienna’s Regenbogenparade in 2008. Tisoki Pays Homage to Old School Dubstep on New Single “Hold On Me”

Tisoki is making himself heard as live music makes its return around the globe. Last month, he delivered “SENSITIVE” alongside Charity Vance, a collaboration that served as the first single from his forthcoming album 01953. Today he’s returned by way of Monstercat for “Hold On Me,” the second track from his debut LP.  Although “Hold On Me” adopts a wildly different feel than “SENSITIVE,” the UK producer has retained his refined, wobbly sound. The tune pays homage to the old-school dubstep Tisoki grew up listening to. He fearlessly embraces rumbling low ends and enthralling vocal samples, summoning nostalgia while simultaneously introducing modern elements.  As of now, Tisoki has yet to announce a relea...

AFK Teams Up With Doctor P on Dubstep Banger “Destroyed”

Dubstep icons AFK and Doctor P have teamed up for a banging new collaboration that’s sure to live up to its name. “Destroyed” was released today via FuntCase’s DPMO imprint, and it’s destined to leave dance floors in shambles in the revitalized festival circuit. The new single opens with a melodic section reminiscent of the early 2010s dubstep sound, refreshed for the early 2020s. An intense buildup laced with a chopped-up vocal sample builds even more energy before all hell breaks loose at the false drop. Shrieking stabs line the main sections with force, while the powerful drums serve up a classic dubstep rhythm perfect for the head-banging crew. A belter through and through, “Destroyed” is a fantastic addition to DPMO’s 2021 catalogue, and...

Watch Subtronics Drop Massive Unreleased SLANDER Collab at Red Rocks

Last night Subtronics headlined the first full-capacity show at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre since the onset of the pandemic—and he did not pull any punches. The dubstep superstar, who said headlining the venue was his “number one life goal since the age of 5,” threw down a set for the ages as he rattled the monoliths flanking the legendary open air venue. Subtronics cycled through a relentless barrage of his own original music as well as mind-bending tracks released by his bass music contemporaries on his Cyclops Recordings imprint. The performance was highlights galore, but it was the drop of one unreleased song that sent ripples through the electronic music community after the momentous “Cyclops Rocks” show. Titled “Gravity...
