With Poster Girl set to be one of the It brands of summer 2021, we spoke to the designers about how a pair of red stilettos decided their friendship, the...

Dua Lipa wins album of the year at Brit Awards

Dua Lipa won the coveted British Album of the Year prize at the Brit Awards on Tuesday, in a ceremony that saw female artists dominate the mixed categories. Around 4,000 guests streamed into London’s O2 Arena for the biggest night in British pop music, as the ceremony welcomed guests for the first time in two years as part of the government’s pilot scheme easing coronavirus restrictions. The Brit Awards have been criticised in the past for nominations seen as skewing heavily male, but this year almost all of the main prizes went to female artists. Little Mix won best British group — becoming the first female act ever to do so. Singer and poet Arlo Parks took the Breakthrough Artist award, and best international group went to the American band HAIM. In another history-making moment, Taylor ...

Dua Lipa Wore Thousands of Pounds of Diamonds to Perform at Elton John’s Oscars Preparty

Diamonds were the standout star on both of Dua Lipa’s performance gowns at the Oscars preparty benefit hosted by the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The Future Nostalgia singer started her string of solo performances in a black gown and later changed into a sparkling outfit to perform duets of “Bennie and the Jets” and “Love Again” with Elton John. Dua Lipa is no stranger to a very sexy red carpet moment, particularly if it’s sparkling. Her sparkling butterfly Grammys dresses are already some of the defining red carpet outfits of 2021. But while Lipa usually goes for ’90s-inspired dresses or sexy, sheer looks, her Oscars preparty gowns were expectedly formfitting but impressively elegant. Dua Lipa’s first look was a black velvet high-neck and lon...

The 30 Best Albums of 2020

After a deluge of canceled or delayed tours, drive-in experiments, Bandcamp Fridays and bedroom livestreams, we’re finally here. Yay? It’s hard to celebrate much of anything in 2020. But one encouraging sign from the music industry has been the number of artists innovating on the fly — figuring out ways to sustain their careers through the madness. And as fans, at least we’ve had new albums to help us process our continuing semi-apocalypse. Having (mercifully) reached the end of this awful year, we have even more perspective on the functionality of a great record. The 30 we’ve assembled here have prompted us to dance, helped us grieve, made us laugh, or even just allowed us to escape into a transportive riff or soundscape. We assume they did the same for the artists themselves. Let us reme...

The second season Song Exploder, the Netflix series based on the podcast of the same name, premieres globally on Dec. 15 and just dropped its first trailer. In it, one of the most powerful moments is when Trent Reznor is seen listening to the classic Nine Nails song “Hurt” and reflecting, “I felt alone. That’s me not knowing who I am anymore: I think I said ‘I’m sorry.’ Then it exploded unexpectedly.” In addition to Nine Inch Nails, the series features The Killers, Dua Lipa and Natalia Lafourcade. The lineup was initially announced in October. A deep dive into the “deeply personal” Killers hit “When You Were Young” reveals that “those first three chords awakened us,” while Lafourcade shares that to get beyond a block for “Hasta La Raíz” where “the music did fe...
