Glastonbury Festival: Public Urination Blamed for “Dangerous” Levels of MDMA, Cocaine in River
Glastonbury Music Festival has been linked to “dangerous” levels of MDMA and cocaine in the adjacent Whitelake River, and scientists believe they’ve found the, uh, number one problem. As BBC reports, public urination by festival goers is dumping toxic levels of drugs into the waterways around Somerset, UK. The 2020 and 2021 editions of the fest were cancelled due to COVID-19, and the new study looked at Glastonbury 2019. Researchers measured drug levels upstream and downstream of the site before, during, and after the festival. A week later, MDMA concentrations had quadrupled downstream. It’s unclear if the levels are high enough to effect humans, and this certainly isn’t an argument to open your mouth near people pissing. Undercover Police Arrest 8, Seize Stockpile of Drugs at Summer Camp Music Festival
Eight people have been arrested following the 2021 edition of Summer Camp Music Festival, which took place last month in Chillicothe, Illinois. Police seized a cache of drugs while working undercover at Three Sisters Park on August 20th and 21st, 25 News reports. Officials confiscated 124 grams of ecstasy, 1,061 doses of LSD, 47 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 27 grams of ketamine, and 33 grams of cocaine. $8,258 of suspected drug money was also found. Of the eight arrested, six face Class X felonies, the most serious felony offense in Illinois short of first-degree murder. If found guilty, they face a minimum sentence of six to 30 years in prison and will not be eligible for probation. Two security guards arraigned for ‘stealing’ N5 million drugs
Two security guards, Ali Mohammed, 35 and Mohammed Abdullahi, 25, were on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing drugs valued at N5 million. The defendants, who reside in Oshodi, Lagos State, are being tried on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Olasunkanmi Adejumola, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 28, at Adewale Crescent, Oshodi, Lagos state. The African Export-Import Bank (Afrexim) has disclosed its plans to support infrastructural development in Ogun State with an envelope of $200m. Imo: NDLEA arrests 60, takes drug war to churches, schools
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has seized 646.23 kilograms of hard drugs and arrested 60 drug suspects in Imo State between January and June 2021. The seized drugs are Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp) cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and tramadol while the suspects arrested were between the ages of 17 and 60 years. Briefing newsmen on the commemoration of 2021 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, the Imo State Narcotics Commander, Nse Inam, said that the Federal Government Special Border Task Force had transferred 4,784kg of Cannabis Sativa to the state command. Polish police on Friday announced the seizing of 160 kilograms (350 pounds) of cocaine hidden inside several shipments of bananas delivered to a branch of the French retail chain, Carrefour. Senegalese navy seizes 8 tonnes of cannabis resin from boat
The Senegalese navy on Sunday intercepted a boat smuggling over 8 tonnes of cannabis resin through the waters off the West African nation’s coast, the armed forces ministry said in a statement. The vessel, which was flying a Togolese flag, was stopped 140 kilometres (87 miles) from the coastal capital of Dakar with seven crew members on board. After escorting the boat to a naval base in Dakar, the authorities discovered the 8.37 tonnes of hashish split between 279 bags.
