Night of the Living Dead Returning to Drive-In Theaters
One of the greatest horror films of all time is returning from the grave. As Bloody Disgusting reports, Grindhouse Releasing and Janus Films are bringing George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead back to drive-ins across America. Better yet, it’s a beautiful new restoration by Janus Films, which this writer has seen and can attest to its majesty. What’s more, each screening will feature an introduction on the legacy of the film by best-selling author Daniel Kraus, who recently co-wrote Romero’s final statement on the zombie genre with the epic novel, The Living Dead. Sadly, Michael Myers won’t be returning in Halloween Kills this October, but he will be back at drive-ins across America. As Bloody Disgusting reports, John Carpenter’s 1978 original and two of its sequels are being dusted off for the holiday. Which sequels? 1981’s Halloween II or 1983’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch? Wishful thinking. Instead, they’re bringing back 1988’s Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and 1989’s Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. Fans of the series will no doubt recognize this lineup from past years; in fact, the print of Halloween is the one that Dean Cundey remastered and restored a couple of years ago. Yankee Stadium Parking Lot to Host Drive-In Concerts and Movies This Summer
With the pandemic limiting social interactions, the concept of the drive-in is making a comeback. New York state recently reopened its drive-in movie theaters, but New York City will be taking things to the next level come summer. As Time Out New York reports, the Yankee Stadium parking lot will be turned into a weekend carnival experience dubbed Uptown Drive-In. Beginning in July, the iconic baseball stadium will host drive-in movies and concerts featuring local musicians every night Friday through Sunday, with a “brunch series” occurring on Saturday and Sunday. What’s more, the festivities will include carside dinner service, interactive games, and giveaways. Donald Trump Planning to Hold Campaign Rallies At Drive-In Movie Theaters
Donald Trump, a man who needs constant adulation in order to exist, hasn’t held a campaign rally since March, and it’s absolutely killing him inside. With large-scale group gatherings still a ways off, his campaign is exploring alternate ways to stage his beloved rallies. According to The Daily Beast, one option under consideration is to hold them at drive-in movie theaters.
