The trend dates back to the ‘60s with Diana Rigg donning the infamous cut-out jumpsuit in The Avengers. It then funnelled into the ’90s as a playful addition to liberal, slinky dresses. What re-emerged on the runway as an editorial look is now gracing e-commerce sites as a fresh take on summer and evening wear. Be it lower than your average scooped backs, perforated side holes or central aligned keyhole detailing, you can’t escape the prevalence of cut-outs. Emotionally speaking, I’m overjoyed that many of my friends who have had to postpone their weddings for almost two years are now getting to enjoy their big day. Sartorially speaking, it gives me the opportunity to finally put on a fancy frock and enjoy the love, fun, elegance and festivities that wedding season brings. Now, what sets a dress apart from a throw-on dress? It’s quite simple. Where some dresses might feel tight and restricting, throw-on dresses are the opposite. Often loose or stretchy, they’re comfortable to wear and don’t require too much effort, particularly when selecting which underwear to wear underneath them.
