Ewan McGregor is headed to Russia, kind of. The actor is set to star in Showtime’s upcoming drama series A Gentleman in Moscow, currently slated for a 2023 release date. Based on Amor Towles’ 2016 novel of the same name, A Gentleman in Moscow follows Count Alexander Rostov (McGregor), an aristocrat whose gilded background has inadvertently put him on the wrong side of history in Stalin-era Soviet conflicts. Rostov is banished in the lavish Hotel Metropol, where he risks being murdered if he ever sets foot outside again. He spends the next several years in the hotel as some of Russia’s most turbulent years pass, learning a thing or two about friendship, family, and love while there. “It’s an amazing, wonderful story and I am very excited to get to play such a fabulous role,” McGre...

The Vietnam War was not known for an excess of intellectualism, and Zac Efron’s character definitely has more beer than brains in the new trailer for The Greatest Beer Run Ever. It premieres September 30th in theaters and on Apple TV+. This retelling of a true story stars Efron as John “Chickie” Donohue, a Marine Corps veteran who in 1967 decided to support the troops in Vietnam by bringing them some well-shaken lukewarm brewskies. The trailer shows the moment of inspiration inebriation when he reached the decision in a bar in New York. As anti-war protestors march across a black-and-white television, the barkeep, played by Bill Murray, moans, “Do these protestors not know that our soldiers see that on TV? I’d like to go over to Vietnam, track down all the boys from the neighborhood, ...
Tegan and Sara are just a pair of precocious girls navigating adolescence in the first teaser trailer for High School. Based on their memoir of the same name, the series will premiere October 14th on Amazon Freevee. While many people view the singer-songwriters as an inseparable duo, the new teaser focuses on their glaring disagreements. “What happened to your eye?” a girl asks in the high school bathroom. “My sister punched me in the face,” comes the reply. When questioned if they’re twins, one says, “No,” as one says, “Yeah,” and later we hear the complaint, “We’ve had to share everything.” But just because they squabble, that doesn’t mean they don’t love each other. Towards the end of the teaser, we see them pick up a guitar and write a song, singing togeth...

Brace yourselves: Another Rocky spinoff is coming. MGM Studios has tapped Robert Lawton to write the screenplay for Drago, the latest addition to the iconic boxing franchise. Drago centers Ivan Drago, the Russian boxer who took on Sylvester Stallone’s beloved fighter in the 1985 film Rocky IV. Decades later, Ivan’s son, Viktor Drago, appeared in Creed II, the second spinoff following the amateur boxer Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan). Dolph Lundgren played Ivan Drago in Rocky IV and Florian Munteanu portrayed Viktor in Creed II, but it’s unclear whether either of them will reprise their roles in Drago. Lawton, who contributed to 2006’s Sex & Sushi and 2012’s Crave, scored the Drago gig after writing the spec script Becom...

Earlier this week, Focus Features revealed highly-anticipated details about Asteroid City, the latest from Wes Anderson — and Bill Murray, a top Anderson regular, was noticeably absent from the cast list. Per Variety, the actor contracted COVID-19 shortly before production was scheduled to begin, leading his role to being recast. Reportedly, Steve Carell replaced Murray in the film. Anderson wrote Asteroid City — which is billed as a “poetic meditation on the meaning of life” — with his frequent collaborator Roman Coppola. Its galactic story takes place in a fictional American desert town in the 1950s, with the town’s Junior Stargazer convention serving as a backdrop “for scholarly competition, rest and recreation, comedy, drama, romance, and more.” It would’ve been Murray ...

If you thought nearly three hours of Baz Luhrmann’s Australia was a lot, prepare to be buggered: Hulu and Disney+ are set to release an expanded and reimagined cut of the 2008 period drama, split up into a six-part limited series called Faraway Downs. Deadline reports that the series will consist of footage captured for the original film, along with a fresh soundtrack and “an expanded, serialized version of the story with a new ending.” Starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, Australia was quite the ambitious love story on its own, but Faraway Downs will allow the story to delve even deeper into the World War II-era draconian racial policy known as the Stolen Generations, by which the Australian government forcibly removed Indigenous children from their families. “I origina...
