Minister tasks NAPTIP on domestication of trafficking act

Twitter Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has urged the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to ensure domestication of the Act in all states. Farouq gave the advice when the Director-General of NAPTIP, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim paid her a courtesy visit in Abuja on Monday. She said NAPTIP should focus on the domestication of Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA), 2015 and Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (VAPP), 2015 in all states of the federation. Global cases of domestic violence rose by 20 percent in 2020, with one-fifth of all crimes reported in the UK’s first lockdown involving abuse in the home. With many victims still trapped inside with their abuser, British jewellery brand Alighieri responded with a dedicated capsule collection of five necklaces, with 100 percent proceeds going towards domestic abuse support charity Refuge.
