A Marketing Blitz Fizzes Out in Pepsi, Where’s My Jet? Trailer: Watch

Netflix has released the trailer for Pepsi, Where’s My Jet?, a four-part documentary revolving around a college student who called the soda company’s bluff about a commercial offering a military plane as part of its loyalty program. Taking inspiration for its title from the 2000 stoner comedy Dude, Where’s My Car?, the docuseries centers around a college student named John Leonard who went on a crusade to acquire enough Pepsi Points to redeem them for an AV-8 Harrier II jet. In a commercial for the Pepsi Stuff program, the company advertised that seven million points would be required to purchase the plane. Since it would take 1.4 million 12-packs to rack up that many Pepsi points, executives thought the number was out of reach. However, the fine print in the catalog allowed cust...

Former Barney David Joyner added ,”As [creator Sheryl Leach’s] beloved character was heading into the stratosphere, people couldn’t accept that this was just a show. And so, let the bashing begin.” This included playground chants — this author recalls, “I hate you/ You hate me/ Let’s get together and kill Barney” — but the fallout extended to the performers on the show. One person recounted rumors that, ...

Peace, Love, and Music Devolve Into a Clusterfuck in Trailer for Netflix’s Woodstock ’99 Docuseries: Watch

Woodstock ’99 infamously failed to emulate the three days of peace, love, and music that the original festival embodied 30 years prior. Combining real footage from the event with interviews with the artists who performed, Clusterfuck retraces the fires and riots that destroyed Woodstock ’99 in three 45-minute episodes. Mounds of garbage and overturned cars litter the series’ trailer, as artists like Jewel recall the festival’s turbulent energy. “It felt like a crowd that could turn at any time,” the singer-songwriter says. This review is part of our coverage of the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. The Pitch: For fifty years, Bill Cosby was America’s Dad, a trailblazer for Black culture on film and television, and comedy. I Spy, The Electric Company, The Cosby Show: All pioneering examples of Black excellence and a guiding light to generations of Black people who yearned to see themselves depicted on screen with grace and intelligence. And then, we learned about the man under those comfy sweaters: someone with credible accusations of sexual assault and rape of dozens of women. For standup comedian W. Kamau Bell, and many Black people across America who’d grown up revering Cosby, those accusations were a tough pill to swallow.
