CJN demands NJC’s involvement in fixing, reviewing of judge’s salary

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Muhammad, has admonished the National Assembly to alter the constitution to mandate the National Judicial Council (NJC) to be involved in the fixing and reviewing of salaries and other emoluments of judges in the country. The CJN, who decried the non review of their salaries in the last 13 years by the Salaries and Wages Commission, also asked for the review of their salaries every four years. He also wants the NJC to collect, control and disburse all monies, capital and recurrent for the judiciary. SEMA: Attitudinal behaviour responsible for fire disasters in Kaduna

The Executive Secretary (ES), Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Abubakar Hassan, has described the attitude of some people as causes of most of the fire disasters in the State. The ES who stated this while fielding questions from journalists at a 2-day training of field officers on hazard profiling and hazard mapping drawn from the 23 local government areas in Kaduna noted that the fire disasters between 2020 and January to May 2021 had cost the State hundreds of millions of naira which would have been spent on other developmental needs of the people. President Buhari seeks international support for peaceful transition in Chad

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday called on the international community to support a peaceful transition from military to democratic government in Chad. NNPC selects 26 firms to lift Nigeria’s crude oil

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has picked 26 foreign and local companies as well as 12 countries to lift the country’s crude oil for the next two years. The crude term contracts, expected to run from 2021 through 2023, would see the firms and the selected nations, which would operate on a Government-to-Government (G2G) basis to purchase the commodity from the national oil company. The deal is coming less than a week after the corporation chose 16 oil and gas consortia for its new crude-for-fuel swap contracts for one year starting in August. A draft statement circulating the day before a Southeast Asian leaders’ summit on the Myanmar crisis included the release of political prisoners as one of its “consensus” points, said three sources familiar with the document. But in the final statement at the end of Saturday’s meeting, the language on freeing political prisoners had been unexpectedly watered down and did not contain a firm call for their release, two of the sources said.
