Move over, Kaskade: Above & Beyond are coming for the title of most breathtaking livestreamed DJ set of the year. Much like Kaskade, who recently performed from a bird’s eye view at the site of San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge, the legendary Above & Beyond trio are similarly taking dance music to new heights with the help of Cercle. This December, Above & Beyond will perform from the top of El Peñón de Guatapé, a natural landmark in Piedra del Peñol, Colombia. Also known as The Stone of El Peñol, the granite monolith towers over 650 feet tal, and can be summited via an equal number of steps embedded in the side of the structure. As Atlas Obscura points out, the landmark was historically revered as a subject of worship by the indigenous ...
Over the weekend, Armin van Buuren joined the Chicago Bulls on the court during their game against the Knicks, but the 6’2” producer didn’t quite make his NBA debut in the traditional sense. He did, however, light up the Bulls’ home of the United Center with a halftime DJ set that brought over 20,000 fans to their feet. van Buuren opened with a surefire favorite, the Bulls’ introduction theme, which was famously remixed by Pretty Lights a decade ago. From there, van Buuren introduced a pumping kick drum and arpeggiated bassline before transitioning the dance cadence into some of his own music, such as “Blah Blah Blah” and “No Fun.” The Bulls rolled out the red mats for the trance music legend as the team’s dedicated tumbling team ...
NERVO have taken their DJing skills to new heights—literally. Their pie-in-the-sky performance took place above the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, better known as Interlagos, a famed racetrack in São Paulo. Try not to get triggered, Philadelphia Eagles fans. Despite growing up in the Philly area, Marshmello, a “lifelong fan of the Silver and Black” according to the Raiders, appeared at halftime during the team’s Sunday Night Football showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs last night. The masked hit-maker threw down an electrifying DJ set at Wynn Field Club, a posh nightclub situated in the north endzone at Allegiant Stadium. The 11,000-square foot entertainment venue spans the length of the entire endzone and features a 45,000-watt sound system, multiple bars, and two DJ booths. Mello’s high-energy performance didn’t translate onto the field for the Raiders, who got smoked by the Chiefs thanks to a 406-yard, 5-touchdown performance from 2019 Super Bowl MVP P...
As engines start to rev on the ground in São Paulo, NERVO will be preparing for liftoff. Kaskade may be positioning himself as a wonder of the modern musical world. As the lack of in-person shows persisted through 2020, Kaskade wholly embraced the idea of bringing dance music where it hasn’t gone before, and if recent events are any indication, his appetite for adventure remains alive and well. First, he brought his show to the breathtaking Grand Canyon—one of the seven wonders of the natural world—where he performed atop a transparent, horseshoe-shaped walkway made of glass. Now, he’s checking off another box by playing at one of the seven wonders of the modern world: the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge. Kaskade went bigger than ever for this remote performance with multiple camera angles capturing the surrounding scene in immersive detail. Pe...

RL Grime‘s “Halloween X” show was a “quantum anomaly” to remember. At least, that’s how renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson labeled it. The planetary scientist, author, and host of Cosmos joined the ranks of surprise celebrity guests—including T-Pain and Guy Fieri—in delivering a particularly ominous introduction on behalf of Grime at last night’s “Halloween X Live” performance. “It is your turn to fight off goblins and ghouls as we merge with a cosmic force I have never before encountered.” Tyson warned. “A space time irregularity that leaves me no choice but to summon another guide, a celestial being known for his mystic composition of dark frequencies. We don’t have a name for him in the sc...
Between playwriting, film-scoring, and now DJing, is there anything Andrew Lloyd Webber can’t do?
