Darth Maul Was Originally Supposed To Appear In Disney+’s ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Series

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Ethan Miller / Getty With anticipation building for Disney+’s latest Star Wars spinoff series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, information about the series is slowly being released. The latest interesting tidbit is that Darth Maul was originally supposed to be Obi-Wan’s main antagonist and the role was going to be reprised by actor Ray Park. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fan-favorite villain from Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace was expected to make his big comeback in the new Obi-Wan series but was written out at the last minute in favor for the classic Star Wars bad guy, Darth Vader. The series writer, Hossein Amini was working with director Deborah Chow on the six-episode series but when they presented Star Wars stewards Dave Filoni and Jon Fav...

Darth Maul Scenes Were Scrapped from Obi-Wan Kenobi Series: Report

Sorry, Sith Lord fans, but Darth Maul likely won’t be appearing in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the villain was originally planned to appear in the Star Wars show, but the scenes were scrapped during a creative overhaul that instead added in Darth Vader. The report even says actor Ray Park, who portrayed Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace and Solo: A Star Wars Story, was “in active prep” to reprise the role in the live-action Disney+ series. However, that all changed when original Obi-Wan writer Hossein Amini and director Deborah Chow showed Lucasfilm their scripts. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau allegedly had concerns about the story covering similar ground as The Mandolorian since Obi-Wan was set to center around its...

Parents TV Council: Marvel Shows on Disney+ Slippery Slope to “Striptease Performances” at Disney World

Disney+ recently announced the onboarding of Netflix’s TV-MA Marvel shows, which is great news for fans of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and more, but an unaccountable tragedy for the humorless scolds at the Parents Television and Media Council. In a new open letter, the PTC said the decision “violates the trust of families” and suggested carrying such content is a slippery slope to “adding live striptease performances in Fantasyland at Disney World.” The House of Mouse’s streaming platform is adding new parental controls for this more mature content in hopes of heading off criticisms like this. On March 16th, when Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders become available to watch, subscribers signing in to Disney+ ...

Disney+ Unveils First Look of Tom Hanks in Live-Action Pinocchio Remake

Pinocchio is the latest beloved Disney classic to get the live-action remake treatment. Before it arrives exclusively on Disney+ this September, the streamer has shared the first look of the film, which stars Tom Hanks as Geppetto, the endearing wood-carver with a knack for puppetmaking. Robert Zemeckis will direct this new telling of Pinocchio, the motionless marionette who becomes transformed into a real boy (with a few caveats). While the character was first introduced in Carlo Collodi’s 1883 children’s novel The Adventures of Pinocchio, it was Disney’s 1940 cartoon that helped make him so recognizable. 13-year-old Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Haunting of Bly Manor) will star as Pinocchio, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as his trusty “conscience” Jiminy Cricket. Other announced cas...

The Emperor Hunts Jedi in First Teaser Trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi: Watch

The Jedi Order has been destroyed, Darth Sidious reigns as Emperor, and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) is forced into hiding in the first teaser trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi. The hottest new destination in that galaxy far, far away comes to Disney+ May 25th. Obi-Wan Kenobi is set between the events of the Star Wars movies Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, when Luke Skywalker is just a boy, and his father Anakin Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen) is filling the galaxy with terror. “The fight is done,” Kenobi sighs in the teaser. “We lost.” But just because he’s been beaten, that doesn’t mean he’s safe. As seen in the Star Wars: Rebels animated series, the Emperor has founded the Inquisitorius, an organization of force-sensitive hunters who track do...

Marvel’s Netflix Series Coming to Disney+ Under New Parental Controls

When news broke in February that Netflix’s live-action Marvel series would be moving to Disney+, one major concern was how the House of Mouse would handle the decidedly non-PG content of The Defenders franchise. Today (March 1st) Disney has answered that question by announcing a new update to parental controls that will go into effect when the shows hit the streamer on March 16th. When subscribers open Disney+ for the first time on or after March 16th, they will be offered the granular ability to select content ratings restrictions and create a PIN for each profile. According to a press release, any profile without the parental controls in place “will continue to enjoy Disney+ as they always have within a TV-14 content rating environment.” IMDb lists Daredevil, Jessica Jones...

Daredevil, Luke Cage & Other Netflix MCU Shows to Move To Disney+

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Netflix / Netflix Disney+’s Marvel lineup is about to get a bit longer as the MCU series that debuted on Netflix years ago will become a part of the Disney+ library sooner than later. Mobile Syrup is reporting that this March, Disney+ will now be home to the now cancelled Netflix Marvel series such as Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Jessica Jones, The Defenders, and Iron Fist (we good on that one). The only catch is that Canada will have the pleasure of streaming the shows first before the U.S. gets their turn. Why? Who knows. The shows will remain on Netflix until March 1 and then hit Disney+ on March 16 beginning in Canada. As to when the rest of the world will be able to watch these shows, Disney hasn’t made any announcements but it probably won’t ...

John Williams to Write Theme for Obi-Wan Kenobi Series

Since announcing the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, Disney+ has scored another big name for its upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series. John Williams, the legendary composer behind Star Wars‘ award-winning scores, has written and recorded the theme song for the new series, Variety reports. Williams won an Oscar back in 1977 for his score for the original Star Wars, and was nominated for his work on both the rest of the original trilogy (The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) and the franchise’s last three films (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.) While the composer has stayed loyal to the series, writing the theme for the 2018 standalone film Solo: A Star Wars Story and even a Disneyland theme park in 2...

Fans of Netflix’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders will will no longer be able to stream on the platform after March 1st. Deadline reports that Netflix’s license for their slew of Marvel series is ending, reverting the rights over to Marvel’s parent company, Disney. Some viewers have anticipated this news since Netflix announced they’d be canceling all their Marvel series in 2019, coinciding with the launch of Disney+. While many of these shows contain more explicit content that doesn’t quite fit with the family-friendly branding of Disney+, the move seems like the best fit in order to keep all streamable Marvel content on the same platform. Fans have also speculated that Disney+ is looking to broaden their content beyond PG-rated fare in orde...
