The cast of the upcoming Disney+ series The Acolyte is growing, and Lee Jung-Jae is the latest big name addition. The Squid Game star will play the male lead in the Star Wars spinoff, Variety reports. Lee will share the screen with fellow lead Amandla Stenberg, and this will mark his first major role post-Squid Game, which set Netflix records and seemingly sent the world into a frenzy. Another Netflix connection: Russian Doll writer-director-executive producer Leslye Headland is developing The Acolyte, which is described as “a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” The Acolyte is just one of many Star Wars-related proj...
Surprise! As part of the Disney+ Day celebration, BTS’s PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE – LA is now streaming on the platform as of today (September 8th). PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE – LA is described as a “stage-focused” concert film, showcasing the enormous event held at So-Fi Stadium at the end of 2021. The four concerts, November 27th-28th and December 1st-2nd, saw the 70,000-seat arena entirely sold out for all four nights. (Read our recap of the spectacular show here.) While the timing is a surprise, this concert film was announced without a release date in July as one of multiple projects created for Disney+, alongside a spin-off of BTS’s In the Soop (In the Soop: Friendcation, which was released on Disney+ in South Korea) and a still-to-come docuseries called BTS Monuments: Beyond th...
Ben Kingsley delighted and deceived his way through Iron Man 3 and Shang Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings, and as Variety reports, he’ll bring back the character Trevor Slatterly in Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man series for Disney+. Wonder Man will reunite Kingsley with the show’s co-creator and executive producer, Destin Daniel Cretton, who helmed Shang-Chi. Some reports have suggested that Cretton is planning an action-packed Hollywood satire; Slatterly’s backstory is struggling actor, and in the comics, Wonder Man worked as a stunt man to try and monetize his invulnerability. Wonder Man has served as both an Iron Man antagonist and Avengers ally, and there’s no indication which way he’ll be leaning at the start of the series. Few o...
Earlier this month, Disney+ added the first half of Season 3 of the Australian kids show Bluey to its library — minus one episode entitled “Family Meeting.” Following some blowback, the streamer has decided to add the episode, whose fart-centric plot didn’t initially meet Disney’s broadcast standards, to its catalog after all. Bluey follows the antics of a family of red and blue heelers. In the 2021 episode “Family Meeting,” the titular blue heeler accuses her dad, Bandit, of “fluffing” (or farting) in her face, prompting her mom, Chilli, to lead a faux trial to determine who’s telling the truth. Disney originally decided that the episode was unfit to air on the Disney Junior channel, but a spokesperson recently told Pirates and Princesses that “Family Meeting” would, in fac...
In potentially bad news for your wallet, you’ll have to shell out a bit more soon if you want to keep watching Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ without ads. Disney is hiking the prices of ad-free subscriptions in the US this year, coinciding with the launch of its ad-supported version of Disney+. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Disney+’s ad-supported tier will launch on December 8th and cost $7.99 a month — the same price the ad-free tier is now. As a result, the ad-free tier will then jump up to $10.99 a month or $109.99 a year, equalling a $3 monthly increase or $30 yearly increase. Meanwhile, beginning October 10th, Hulu will raise prices for all its subscribers. The ad-supported tier, which is currently $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year, will jump to $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year. Hulu’s current $12...
Fire up the Blackbird, because the classic X-Men: The Animated Series is back! This includes Rogue (Lenore Zann), Beast (George Buza), Gambit (Chris Potter), Jean Grey (Catherine Disher), Wolverine (Cal Dodd), Storm (Alison Sealy-Smith), Jubilee, and Cyclops. Cable and Bishop will appear alongside Forge, with Nightcrawler (Adrian Hough) and Sunspot as new additions to the team. Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan are officially joining the Marvel Collection on Disney+. This marks the first time Disney+ has hosted R-rated movies. All three anti-hero movies will hit the streamer on July 22nd, adding to the Marvel library that includes everything from 2008’s Iron Man to this spring’s Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which happens to be the 28th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starring Ryan Reynolds, 2016’s Deadpool tells the R-rated origin story of Wade Wilson, a foul-mouthed mercenary subjected to experimental treatments that leave him both physically disfigured and with mutant powers of superhuman healing. In its 2018 sequel, Deadpool assembles a rogues’ gallery of fellow mutants to protect a young boy exhibiting powers from a time-traveling cyborg na...

Since American conservatives aren’t too worried about the Supreme Court’s disbelief in global warming or dismantling of abortion rights, they have to find some nit-pickier topics to get their panties in a wad — like a man shopping for menstrual products in a children’s television show. This week, infamous right-wing writer Christopher T. Rufo — aka the guy who drummed up last year’s partisan uproar over critical race theory. — tweeted his outrage over Disney+’s Baymax! for one very brief inclusion of an openly transgender background character, sending much of conservative Twitter into a pathetic tizzy. Baymax!, a spinoff of the film Big Hero 6, is a six-part series in which the titular “personal healthcare companion” extends his helpful deeds to the youths of San Fransokyo....
