Beyoncé will return next month with a new visual album called Black Is King. It’s due out on July 31st exclusively through Disney Plus. The project ties back to Beyoncé’s previous collaboration with Disney on last year’s CGI remake of The Lion King and the companion album, The Lion King: The Gift. According to a press release, Black Is King “reimagines the lessons of The Lion King for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns. The film was in production for one year with a cast and crew that represent diversity and connectivity.” Beyoncé wrote, directed and produced Black Is King herself. Mark Hamill Has a Secret Cameo in The Mandalorian as a Cantina Droid

Eagle-eyed Star Wars fans love to boast that they could spot Mark Hamill anywhere thanks to the wide range of voice and acting roles he’s accumulated over the years. That’s not always true though. The Luke Skywalker actor made his coolest secret cameo yet last year that nobody noticed: he was a droid in the fifth episode of The Mandalorian. During the finale of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, a behind-the-scenes docuseries about the making of the smash hit Disney Plus show, it was revealed that Hamill appeared in the series as the cantina bartender in Episode 5, reports Deadline. The droid — named EV-9D9, according to creator Jon Favreau — was uncredited and Hamill masked his voice for the role. In the scene, the Mandalorian walks into the cantina and approaches the bartender to ask about...

Artemis Fowl Isn’t Worth 94 Minutes of Your Life: Review

The Pitch: After years in development hell, Disney is unveiling its attempt at a new franchise with the adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s first Artemis Fowl novel. With a cast that includes Colin Farrell, Josh Gad, and Dame Judi Dench, and esteemed director Kenneth Branagh behind the camera, what could go wrong? What Went Wrong: Well, just about everything. The one mercy of Artemis Fowl is that it’s short, clocking in at just 94 minutes including its end credits. Unfortunately, that gives Branagh and credited screenwriters Conor McPherson and Hamish McColl plenty of time to create confusing character motivations, half-assed attempts at emotional gravitas, and stabs at humor that are best left unsaid or unseen. For those of us who haven’t read the Colfer books, Artemis Fowl fails to tell its most...

What’s Coming to Disney Plus in June 2020

Each month, Consequence of Sound rounds up a full list of new TV and film titles coming to Disney Plus. Hamilton Movie Being Released 15 Months Early on Disney+

Disney is fast-tracking the release of a film version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning musical, Hamilton, starring the original cast. Originally, the film was set to hit theaters in October 2021, but with millions of Americans currently stuck at home in quarantine, the studio is now altering those plans. Not only will Hamilton be released 15 months early — July 3rd, 2020, to be exact — but it’ll be streaming exclusively on Disney+. “In light of the extraordinary challenges facing our world, this story about leadership, tenacity, hope, love and the power of people to unite against the forces of adversity is both relevant and impactful,” Disney chairman Bob Iger said in a statement. “We are thrilled to bring this phenomenon to Disney+ on the eve of Independence Day, and we hav...

Disney Working on a National Treasure TV Series

Disney already announced they’re working on a third National Treasure film, but it turns out that’s not all the Mouse House has in store for the goofy historical fiction title. In a new interview with Collider, producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed plans for a National Treasure TV series that would live on Disney Plus. According to Bruckheimer, the TV show spin-off won’t follow Benjamin Franklin Gates, a.k.a. Nicolas Cage, but rather a “much younger” crew equally committed to undergoing made-up, elaborate, risk-riddled plots to save a watered-down version of American history. “We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but...

Disney Releases Baby Yoda Vinyl With The Mandalorian Theme

The first season of The Mandalorian offered a new hope for the Star Wars franchise thanks to a reimagined narrative by Jon Favreau. Regardless of how good the script was, there’s no denying part of the show’s success came from The Child, the infant character otherwise known as Baby Yoda, who became a beloved meme instantly. Now, for May the 4th, Disney has announced a Baby Yoda-shaped vinyl that’s as adorable as The Child himself. The record is aptly titled “The Child Die-Cut Vinyl”. It features Baby Yoda in a pod, as seen in the series, with his hands grabbing on to the edge of the metal, all snug in that tightly wrapped jacket. Both sides of the vinyl contain The Mandalorian theme song as composed and produced by Ludwig Göransson, the musician behind some of the best film score...

44 Million Americans Share Passwords to Video Streaming Services: Survey

How many passwords do you have across all your streaming accounts? Now, how many of them do you share with family, friends, and loved ones? Probably a lot. Probably most of you. Especially if we’re to believe a new report by by Cordcutting.com, which states that 44 million U.S. adults are using shared passwords for streaming services. That’s a whole lot of Netflix and chilling for free, and not surprisingly, it’s gone up in 2020 for a couple of networks. For both Netflix and Amazon Prime, the amount of freeloaders have increased by 14.4% and 13.9%, respectively. Though, oddly enough, Hulu has been spared of millions of moochers as they’re seeing a decline of 17.2%. When those numbers are translated into dollars, you can almost hear the sighs and smell the sweat from the suits at Netflix an...

Robert Rodgriguez Directed a Season 2 Episode of The Mandalorian

Robert Rodgriguez is no stranger to tales of violent outlaws and children in danger. Now, the creative mind behind the Sin City and Spy Kids franchises has confirmed his work directing a Season 2 episode of The Mandalorian. In a May 4th post on Twitter, Rodriguez shared a picture of himself and a certain green puppet. “I am truly humbled to say I have now had the very rare privilege of directing the biggest star in the universe,” he wrote. Season 2 is expected to debut in October. While Disney is usually tight-lipped about these things, the House of Mouse has been strategically leaking details about their only universally-adored Star Wars property. In March we learned that Rosario Dawson will take up the dual lightsabers of fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano, and yesterday Peyton...
