The gift of the Thanksgiving gods smiles upon us this day, as we awaken from our turkey-and-stuffing-induced comas, slide over to Disney+, and find another episode of The Mandalorian awaiting us, “The Jedi”. Finally, after half a season of standalone adventures, we finally make some progress in Din Djarin’s (Pedro Pascal) mission to bring Baby Yoda back to his people, the Jedi. Along the way, we meet yet another old friend from the animated shows, an even older friend from ’80s genre classics, and learn perhaps a bit too much about Mando’s adorable young charge. Let’s go over everything we learned, and a few things non-animated show watchers might not know about this week’s special guest. Of course, it goes without saying that there are some major, major spoilers ahead. You must be ca...
Unable to tour due to the ongoing pandemic, Taylor Swift opted instead to write and record her new album folklore. The album’s intimate, lo-fi sonics are largely a reflection of its recording process, as the normally bombastic pop singer was forced to record the 16-track LP in isolation, with collaborators Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff contributing remotely. Now, months after the album’s release, the trio is finally meeting in-person for a live performance of folklore. Premiering tomorrow (!), November 25th on Disney+, folklore: the long pond studio sessions finds Swift, Dessner, and Antonoff holed up at The National’s Long Pond Studio in Hudson, New York, performing tracks from the album live for the first time. What’s more, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon even stops by to sing his duet with S...
As promised, Taylor Swift has released her new folklore-focused film, the long pond studio sessions. The pop singer has also revealed a corresponding live album version of those sessions. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the original folklore LP was recorded remotely while in quarantine. Today’s two projects see Swift finally meeting up with her collaborators (IRL!) to perform the album live from start to finish for the first time. She, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner convened at The National’s Long Pond Studio in Hudson, New York. Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, who duets with Swift on “exile”, beamed in remotely. “It’s an album that allows you to feel your feelings, and it’s a product of isolation,” Swift said in the film’s trailer. At another point, she remarked to Dessner, “This could’...

Four decades after the wonderful disaster that was the Star Wars Holiday Special, Lucasfilm is taking another crack at bringing the seasonal spirit to a galaxy far, far away — this time with LEGO. On November 17th, the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will premiere on Disney+, and as the new trailer reveals, just about everyone is coming to the party. The animated event is centered around Rey, who on her way to a Life Day celebration with the other sequel trilogy characters, ends up finding a key to time itself. As she and BB-8 spiral back through the galaxy’s past, she runs into the New Hope version of her master, Luke Skywalker himself. When her grandfather, Emperor Palpatine, and his apprentice, Darth Vader, catch wind of the time-travel key, they set their sights on altering the fut...
Disney+ is looking to the stars across November. Whether they’re leaving our atmosphere with continuing episodes of The Right Stuff or absconding to a galaxy far, far away with The Mandalorian, The Mouse House clearly has no intentions of spending time in reality here on Earth. No kidding! Because if they’re not blasting off, they’re celebrating the art of imagination with docuseries such as Inside Pixar and Marvel’s 616 or putting up the holiday lights with the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. There are no shortage of escapes here. Nostalgics can also find solace in revisiting classics such as Disney’s A Christmas Carol and Mr. Magoo. Sadly, there isn’t much else being added to the back catalogue — perhaps they’re saving some titles for Christmas come December? We’ll see. Editors’ Pi...
The Pitch: When we last left Mando (Pedro Pascal), he’d just been tasked with a holy Mandalorian mission to track down Baby Yoda The Child’s species and return him to them — a mighty feat given that no one’s ever seen anything like him. Still, even though he’s left the bounty hunting life behind (for now), his quest will still take him to the farthest corners of the galaxy, righting wrongs along the way. While Season 2 will surely have more answers to the show’s broader, arc-based questions, the series premiere, “The Marshal”, kicks off Disney+’s hit with a no-frills space Western of the classic mold. Seeking a Mandalorian rumored to be on Tatooine (the identity of whom any self-respecting Star Wars fan can piece together), Mando heads to a remote mining settlement on the desert plane...
After playing the titular villain in X-Men: Apocalypse, it looks like Oscar Isaac may be taking on another headlining role in a Marvel project — only this time as a hero. Variety reports the actor is in talks to star in the Moon Knight series coming to Disney+. Should Isaac officially sign on for Moon Knight, he’d play Marc Spector, a rich ex-mercenary who devotes himself to the Egyptian moon god Khonshu in order to save his life. As Knonshu’s avatar Moon Knight, he viciously fights crime with weapons funded by his massive wealth, often drawing comparisons to Batman in that sense. However, Moon Knight isn’t Spector’s only alternate identity, as he creates the personas of millionaire Steven Grant and cab driver Jake Lockley to further aid in his heroics. Later incarnations of the character ...
Source: Anadolu Agency / Getty Disney was well aware that some of its iconic content it is offering on Disney+ was insanely problematic, and at first, announced it would address with a vague warning. Now, the house of the mouse is cleaning that message up with a new warning label. Right around the time Disney+ was set to launch back in November 2019, Disney announced it would warn viewers with a label about the racist content in some of its older movies so it wouldn’t have to remove it. The message was met with some criticism because some felt the company’s wording about the content in question was hazy at best. “This program is presented as originally created. It may contain outdated cultural depictions.” It would seem that Disney has gotten the message and is now issuing a new unskippabl...
Move over Mando, there’s a new Lucasfilm property coming to Disney+. The streaming platform has ordered a sequel series to the 1988 classic epic Willow. The original film’s director, Ron Howard, has been teasing at a Willow follow-up for over a year. After confirming the project was “very active” over the summer, he’s officially set to return as executive producer. Star Warwick Davis is also back, reprising his beloved title role. Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) will helm the pilot, which was written by Jonathan Kasdan (Solo: A Star Wars Story). The latter will also serve as showrunner alongside Wendy Mericle (Arrow). Howard called the show “a creative lean-forward” as opposed to “a nostalgic throwback,” something Davis said he’s thrilled to be a part of. “Many have told me they grew up wit...
