Discord Testing Subscription Feature Allowing Creators to Monetize Their Servers

Discord is introducing monthly subscriptions to its service, initially with a pilot program for select creators. The subscriptions, which have been dubbed Premium Memberships, are designed to support Discord servers – digital conversation hubs that connect Discord users via audio, video or text – and the creators who lead them. Creators have the option of dividing memberships into tiers, with each tier boasting unique pricing (subscriptions can range from $2.99 to $99.99 a month) and perks. Creators will also have access to analytics to see how their memberships are performing. How Tasha Baxter Uplifted the Bedroom Producer Community In the Darkness of the Pandemic

From label releases to curated compilations, many artists have worked tirelessly to provide unheralded artists a platform for their voices to be heard. However, singer-songwriter and electronic music vet Tasha Baxter has taken a distinctly unique approach with her Full Moon Flex community. Baxter launched Full Moon Flex around the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when she began to host streams during full moons. “Honestly, I had just come back from performing with Camo & Krooked’s Symphonic Orchestra in Vienna when Covid hit South Africa and the rest of the world. Like bam,” Baxter tells EDM.com. “I started my server when I started my Patreon and then moved to Twitch to do live performances, group therapy sessions, artist interviews and sample flip challenges....

From Fan to Family: How Discord Gave Artists a Platform to Connect With Purpose

The social media landscape has changed over the past few years. Myspace took the world by storm when it launched in 2003. Then came Facebook a year later, revolutionizing the way that we connect with friends, family, and loved ones. But now Facebook’s imminent doom lingers like a roadkill stench, and other platforms are swooping in to pick up the slack. Twitter created a platform that allows people to share bite-sized pieces of information and join conversations from all around the world. YouTube has provided creators with a podium to share their stories and build their brands. TikTok has replaced Vine and filled the void of video memes millennials and Gen Z’ers yearned for during a global pandemic. While every social media platform has a unique position within the online social community,...
