Ivy Lab Release Forward-Thinking “Press Play” EP on Dirtybird White Label Series

Ivy Lab is in a lane of their own. When it comes to mixing hip-hop and bass music, no one does it quite like the London-based electronic duo. Last week, they went even further outside the lines with a brand new, forward-thinking EP titled Press Play, released on Dirtybird‘s White Label series. The EP is an evolution of Ivy Lab’s signature sounds, from their early days producing drum & bass to their more obscure, experimental sound. Press Play dives deep into their roots of producing obscure, cinematic, and unsettling electronic hip-hop. Eerie and kinetic, the record opens with its titular track, a sultry trap cut, before “BBQ,” a glitched-out halftime banger. Artwork for Ivy Lab’s “Press Play” EP. Recommended Articles The th...

From Online to Big Time: At Dirtybird Records, a New Flock Takes Flight

Like a mother bird keeping her eggs warm, Dirtybird Records has hatched the careers of several DJs in their own proverbial nest over the last 18 months, taking one artist after the next under their wing. Social media helped to hype the label’s newest recruits in the absence of live shows, but few could argue the real magic happened on the online streaming platform Twitch, which seemingly overnight became the heartbeat of the electronic dance music scene during the pandemic. For Dirtybird, their Twitch channel garnered staggering support with more than 7 million viewers tuning in to stream since April 2020, totaling more than 928,000 hours of direct screen time with fans. They also quickly racked up more than 50,000 active followers on the platform, bolstering their digital prese...

Dirtybird Road to Campout 2021: Recap

The spirits were high and alive at the 2021 Dirtybird Road to Campout.  The happy campers descended upon Los Angeles’ Expo Park on August 8th, the previous home of the 2019 Dirtybird BBQ, to shake some tail feathers and get down to house music. After a year of no contact, it was clear this day festival was much needed. Label head Claude VonStroke heard the flocks’ prayers and answered. The grassy oasis in the middle of Downtown LA was transformed in classic Dirtybird form with camp games, activities, delicious Grill$on BBQ, and of course live music. KINK, the analog maven, made a glorious appearance, traveling all the way from Bulgaria, to captivate fans with a one-of-a-kind performance.  Two new additions to the family, Nala and DJ E-Clyps, threw down sets ...

“I Was Living Under a Veil My Entire Life”: How Worthy’s Coming Out Reawakened Her Passion for Music

Amidst the dozens of glimmering discoballs that hovered above the dancefloor, a radiant energy pierced through what was already a jovial crowd. Her exuberance soaring with each thump of a kickdrum, she elevated the spirits of those in attendance.  It’s a passion that she, herself, recently reconnected with. The adoration for her craft was losing steam, a train to nowhere slowly stalling in its tracks. However, as she came to terms with her own identity, she inadvertently reignited her love for the art of DJing. In December of 2020, as the world coped with the ramifications of the pandemic, Worthy was dealing with major repercussions of her own after announcing that she is transgender.
