Industry execs confident in DeFi adoption despite security flaws: Finance Redefined

Welcome to Finance Redefined, your weekly dose of essential decentralized finance (DeFi) insights — a newsletter crafted to bring you significant developments over the last week. Industry experts are confident in DeFi and believe the sector would continue to see adoption despite its security flaws, primarily due to the mammoth failure of centralized exchanges. Despite the continued growth, however, the decentralized exchanges have lost $30 million on liquidity provider incentives. Popular hardware crypto wallet Ledger introduced a new DeFi tracking feature that pairs with its hardware wallets to monitor performance analytics of over 1,000 protocols. The Lodestar Finance protocol that was exploited for over $5 million on Dec. 10 had a Mango Markets connection, wherein the exploiter copied t...

SushiSwap CEO reveals DEX lost $30M on LP incentives this year

According to a new Twitter post by SushiSwap CEO Jared Grey, the decentralized exchange, or DEX, experienced a $30 million loss in the past 12 months on incentives for liquidity providers, or LPs. As explained by Grey, SushiSwap currently employs a token-based emission strategy to incentivize LPs, but the current rate is “unsustainable.” “We commissioned Flipside to build dashboards to showcase these results; we’ll make them available by EOY.” Moving forward, Grey plans to rework SushiSwap’s tokenomics so that LPs are no longer subsidized with emissions and redesign the entire model of bootstrapping liquidity on the exchange. ” In Q1 2023, we will bring innovation to scale swap volume & prioritize TVL. As LPs experience a more profitable swap e...

The all-in-one approach at the foundation of next gen crypto investment platforms

The ongoing FTX saga has injected more uncertainty into an already shaken market. If it was not clear already, even the biggest centralized exchanges can fail. The problem is multi-faceted. On the one hand, just like in traditional finance, centralized institutions are only as good as the people who run them. When investors use services like FTX, they are putting their trust in the people that run the service. Unfortunately, history is rife with examples of powerful people taking advantage of that trust. On the other hand, cryptocurrency is still very new. The vast majority of crypto users are not well-versed in all of the technical underpinnings of how things work. For most, digital assets are simply an alternative means of investing and therefore the most convenient solutions are often t...

Sushiswap chief says it only has 1.5 years of treasury runway left

According to a new proposal dated Dec. 6, Jared Grey, CEO of decentralized exchange Sushiswap (SUSHI), disclosed that the project’s Treasury has less than 1.5 years of runaway left, and the “significant deficit in the treasury threatens Sushi’s operational viability, requiring an immediate remedy.” Grey explained that Sushiswap’s annualized operating expenses amounted to roughly $9 million in October, however, that has since been reduced to around $5 million. “We made the reduction possible by renegotiating infrastructure contracts, scaling back underperforming or superfluous dependencies, and instituting a budget freeze on non-critical personnel and infrastructure.” To remedy the situation, Grey proposed setting Sushiswap’s “Kanpai,...

ATOM price is reaching for the Cosmos, but why?

As a market crash takes place, assets become oversold and typically there’s an “oversold bounce,” “return to mean,” “mean reversion,” or some price snapback to the bottom of the pre-crash range.  Afterward, the asset under study either consolidates, continues the downtrend, or returns to the bullish uptrend if the downside catalyst was not significant enough to break the market structure. That’s all basic trading 101. This week Cosmos (ATOM) price appears to be following this path, and the altcoin is showing a bit of strength with a 35% gain since Aug. 22. But why? Depending on how you look at it, and technical analysis is by all means a subjective process, ATOM price is either in an ascending channel, or one could say a rounding bottom pattern is present with price close to breaking ...

The crypto market saw another depeg this week, with the Acala ecosystem seeing its native stablecoin lose the peg. With a sudden price drop toward the end of the week, the majorit...
