The 30 Best Albums of 2022 (So Far)

The following acts released quality albums in May 2022 alone: Radiohead off-shoot The Smile, Kendrick Lamar, Wilco, Arcade Fire, Sharon Van Etten, The Black Keys, Florence + the Machine, Harry Styles — we’ll stop there for space reasons. It’s been such a wild music year so far, only some of them made the following list. Maybe 2022 was just front-loaded and the final six months will be less eventful. (Judging by the release calendar, that’s probably a bad prediction.) Either way, we had trouble even narrowing this down to 30. Let’s meet back here at year’s end and see how things shake out. 30. Caracara – New Preoccupations Fans of classic 2000s emo — Say Anything, Dashboard Confessional, or Circa Survive, for example — are sure to find something to love in Caracara’s New Preoccupations (and...

The 30 Best Songs of 2022 (So Far)

It’s almost absurd how much good music — universally acclaimed, big-ticket, year-end contender music — came out in 2022’s first five months. It’s hard to imagine the next seven matching that pace. We’ve heard soul-bearing rap songs (Kendrick Lamar), future windows-down rock classics (Momma), loads of elite-level Thom Yorke (The Smile) — the list, literally, goes on. Below, we gathered our 30 favorite tracks of 2022 so far. (In this case, we decided songs from any 2022 albums were on the table.) Let’s meet back here at year’s end and see how things shake out. 30. All Get Out – “Feeling Well” The first single from All Get Out’s new album, Kodak, smartly swirls folk-rock, emo, and a dash of country into a potent cocktail of paranoia, self-doubt, and hesitant nostalgia. This South Carolin...

Denzel Curry Teams With T-Pain on ‘Troubles’

Denzel Curry has released his latest single “Troubles,” which features T-Pain ahead of his forthcoming fifth studio album Melt My Eyez See Your Future. Alongside the song, Curry released an accompanying music video using an artistic juxtaposition between black and white shots and vibrant, eyecatching colors. [embedded content][embedded content] The song was produced by Kenny Beats and DJ Khalil, and follows his two other singles released off of the album, “Zatoichi” and “Walkin,” which will both also appear on the album. “I like traditional hip hop, I like drum and bass, I like trap, I like poetry,” Curry said in a statement. “So a lot of that is going to be interwoven in this album including jazz and a lot of genres that I came up on as a kid and just being in my parents’ house. This albu...

Denzel Curry Releases New Single ‘Zatoichi’

Denzel Curry has shared his latest single, “Zatoichi,” featuring slowthai. On the song, Curry’s verses are laid over a powerful drum and bass instrumental. “Zatoichi” is also accompanied by a music video inspired by the Japanese samurai movie character Walkin and the film Kill Bill Vol. 2. As Curry transitions away from his era of theatrical characters and alter egos, we see a new creative side of him that was once veiled. [embedded content][embedded content] For his upcoming album, Melt My Eyez See Your Future, Curry is attempting to hit a different note with audiences. The rapper says: “I like traditional hip hop, I like drum and bass, I like trap, I like poetry, so a lot of that is going to be interwoven in this album including jazz and a lot of genres that I came up on as a kid and jus...

Denzel Curry Unveils Dynamic Sci-fi Video for New Single ‘Walkin’

Florida rap icon Denzel Curry is back on the scene with a video for Walkin,’ his new single off of his forthcoming album Melt My Eyez See Your Future. The video, directed by Adrian Villagomez, follows Curry walking through a desert village. He walks in solitude as dust from the sand blows around him, setting a scene of sci-fi western dystopia. The image of a burning building illuminates a shot of children playing on a swing set, a symbol on Curry’s commentary on the tainted changing nature of everyday life as the state of the world decays in climate anxiety, wealth inequality, and a pandemic without an end in sight. The sharp and melodic flow of verses is juxtaposed with mesmerizing background vocals. The track delivers several instances of hard-hitting social commentary, Curry raps “the s...

Denzel Curry to Release New Album Melt My Eyes See Your Future
