The next big non–skinny jeans trend is here, and it couldn’t be chicer. While skinny jeans will truly never die, nor do we want them to, we’ve spotted a number of emerging denim trends that are pretty much the antithesis of skinnies. We’ve already mentioned how flares and loose jeans are on the rise, and, well, we’re adding another of these non-skinny styles to the top of our lists: high-rise wide-leg jeans. These are full-length jeans with a trouser-like wide leg and a high rise. We know that wide-leg jeans can be intimidating if you’re not used to wearing them already, which is why the high rise is crucial here. It hugs you in all the right places and creates some nice dimension for the overall silhouette. Some of the stand...
Arket’s puffer coats, Gucci’s crystal slingbacks, Mango’s shearling jacket, H&M’s wide-leg trousers… These are just a few of the would-be cult items that we introduced to you ahead of the hype this season. And, dear reader, we’re about to tip you off to another piece that’s worth knowing about. Over the past couple of months, we couldn’t help but notice that one particular item has been quietly cropping up all over our Instagram feeds. As you’ve likely deduced by the title of this article, the item is indeed a pair of jeans—Levi’s Ribcage jeans, to be precise. What makes them so special? We’re glad you asked—we decided to do a little digging into the matter, and let’s just say we think they give every jean that came...
In the past few weeks, I seem to have taken on the epic one-editor mission to provide petite women with the best stores and exact pieces suited to their stature. It’s not easy shopping when you’re 5’3” or under, and I’m absorbing the hard graft in order to save short people time and hassle this year (and for as long as possible). Who What Wear has helpful tips on styling tricks and outfit combinations to consider when you’re short, autumn’s most directional trends for fashion enthusiasts who don’t have height on their side, the best petite midi dresses for the season and my latest two pairs of high-street trousers that are a perfect fit, among more. However, today we...

I always find buying straight leg jeans hard. Fact. I’m 5ft 9in, a large UK 12 on the bottom but have a smaller waist, so I either find that jeans are not cut high enough on the hips, are too short in the leg or are just too tight around the hips in order to make sure they’re not baggy around my middle. For the past few seasons ’90s-inspired straight leg jeans have been the key denim trend to buy into. Any content creator worth her salt has been photographed in a pair and they continue to be the season-less jean shape that designers and retailers bring out time and time again. So, why are they so popular? No one can deny that they’re incredibly versatile, mostly due to the classic shape and unfussy washes. They can be worn day or night, dressed up or down and can ...
Whenever I wear a double-denim outfit, there’s almost always someone who comments on how “brave” I am for wearing such a bold look. Okay, so I understand the reservations some people might have around the “Canadian tuxedo”—most of which relate to a certain Justin and Britney look c.2001 or, alternatively, the memory of a questionable teenage outfit they’d rather forget—but I find that double denim is one of the coolest and easiest looks you can wear for autumn. Arguably, straight-leg jeans have had their moment and can now be considered a born-again staple. So there’s space for a new silhouette in town, and with all the wide-leg jeans we’ve been seeing recently, we feel safe in pin-pointing this as the next big denim trend that’s set to dominate the season. As a lover of all things ’70s, and a fan of the comfort this relaxed style offers, I couldn’t be more excited. The extreme flare silhouette is so easy to make look good; whether you’re drawn to loose button-ups or slimline turtlenecks, you’ll find that wider-fitting jeans complement all your wardrobe staples. And as we inch toward winter and surrender to bulky, longline coats, added perks will emerge: With your trendy...
After getting all dressed up during NYFW for shows such as Khaite and Ulla Johnson, Katie Holmes took a break from wearing head-to-toe designer looks to instead roam around NYC in a jeans-and-tee look that, despite its casual appearance, appeared just as chic as anything she wore to sit front-row. For the late-summer occasion, Holmes specifically chose a baby-pink muscle-style T-shirt, which she tucked into a pair of wide-leg jeans from Mango’s new premium line, Selection. Mid-rise with a semi-cropped length and a slightly washed-out look, the £50 denim is about as close to perfect as a pair of jeans can get, especially when you consider that most jeans these days will set you back at least £100. To further elevate the low-key ensemble, she added her new go-to bur...
Jennifer Lopez has had so many statement fashion moments over the years. Remember the Versace dress, the Met Gala headpiece and, most recently, the custom Ralph Lauren wedding gown? But despite all the sparkle and glamour, it’s clear that when J.Lo dresses down, she always turns to denim. In the early days of her career, she relied on daring, low-rise styles. Now in her 50s, she’s branching out and perhaps revisiting some old favourites along the way. Between baggy, pleated, skinny, and bootcut, if it’s a jean style, J.Lo has probably tried it. She’s never one to shy away from experimenting with different looks and knows exactly how to wear each style to maximum effect. On her honeymoon, she was spotted in an assortment of denim ‘fits (along with a plethora of...

I’ve been a stylist for almost ten years, so I’d like to think that when it comes to putting clothes together I know a thing or two. Even so, I still have those moments, either in the morning or post-work, pre-dinner or drinks, where I find myself staring at my wardrobe without any inspiration at all. It’s in those moments, though, that I’ve learned to not be afraid of falling back on old faithfuls. They’re called that for a reason after all. It might be my favourite midi dress and ankle boots, or the power suit I know I feel great it. More often than not, however, it’s jeans and a nice top. It’s a winning combination that just works for so many occasions, and most importantly it never feels too dressy or too casual, which is particularly helpful for those outings where the dres...
For a lot of us, jeans are undeniably our most-worn wardrobe item. I, for one, turn to my trusty blues again and again, especially in autumn on those busy mornings when I need to throw on a reliably easy but chic outfit. When the weather is hit or miss during this transitional season, jeans just seem to always work, and you can then add or take away layers depending on what the day holds. The problem is, when we wear something so much, it can often get a little tired or boring, even when it’s as classic as denim. It can also be the case that when you’re returning to your old favourite jeans after a summer of linen and dresses, you just need to jog your memory on some winning combos. Either way, I find what helps me get excited about jeans again is having a nosy at how some of th...
