There’s good reason to believe the emerging field of music therapy is a multi-billion dollar industry in-waiting. As the team at MediMusic notes, music has consistently shown promise in its naturally healing potential. Prior studies on music exposure has shown the art form demonstrates the benefit of reducing anxiety by up to 44%, and pain reduction by 29%. Knowing those statistics, there’s certainly good reason to believe music is medicine. But in this case, it’s more than a cliché. MediMusic is prescribing music to help remediate a variety of everyday and chronic ailments. “MediMusic has managed to digitally fingerprint the DNA of music so we can prescribe the right songs as medicine to ease anxiety and stress,” said Gary Jones, Co-Founder and CEO of M...
Universal Music Group has been named the exclusive launch partner for Vera, a mobile application created by music wellness and technology company Music Health. Vera is an AI-driven music app designed specifically for people suffering with dementia. Chloe Meineck observed these impacts first hand during visits with her Great Gran, but she wanted to do more to channel those positive memories for her grandmother. So she developed the Music Memory Box, a product that leverages tech and music with the goal of reducing stress in dementia patients. The Music Memory Box Kickstarter campaign explains that the product allows users to embed photos into the underside of the box’s lid. Upon lifting the lid, users should tag...
Former England striker Gary Lineker says he will get extra checks on his brain for signs of dementia. Research has found that former professional footballers are three and a half times more likely to die from a brain disorder than the general population. Already, an inquiry was launched by the UK parliament this month into sport’s link to dementia. Lineker, who has previously suggested a complete ban on heading in training, joined a radio programme for a Dementia in Football documentary. He revealed he and colleagues Alan Shearer and Ian Wright fear they could end up with a brain disorder. “I’ve had conversations with Alan Shearer and Ian Wright and others about the worry that, come 10, 15 years, that it might happen to one of us,” said the 60-year-old former England captain turned broadca...
