April Fool’s Day has been full of the suspected pranks and goofs, but this is no joke. James Gunn has shared another trailer for The Suicide Squad that features loads of new footage from the upcoming blockbuster. This new preview arrives less than a week after Warner Bros. unleashed the film’s R-rated trailer on audiences last Friday, which is an usual amount of successive promotion for a movie of this caliber. Either way, audiences surely won’t be complaining because this new trailer is stuffed with sneak-peaks of the highly-anticipated entry in the DC Extended Universe. Whereas the last trailer focused on film’s primary Squad members (like Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Idris Elba’s as Bloodsport), this one makes room for a whole slew of kooky side-characters like King Shark, Weas...
Barry’s got a brand new dad. With Billy Crudup departing The Flash due to scheduling conflicts with Apple TV Plus’ The Morning Show, Ron Livingston is replacing him in the role of Henry Allen (via Variety). The Office Space and The Conjuring actor is taking over the fatherly part after Crudup played it in Justice League. The Flash has been through development hell over the years, losing numerous directors before Andy Muschietti (It) finally stepped to the starting line in 2019. Production was again postponed due to the pandemic, which ultimately led to Crudup’s scheduling conflict. Livingston’s addition comes days after Maribel Verdú (Pan’s Labyrinth, Y Tu Mamá También) was cast as Barry “the Flash” Allen’s mother, Nora Allen. Thought official plot details are still thin, it’s generally as...
Pierce Brosnan (photo by Ovidiu Hrubaru/Shutterstock) and Dr. Fate (DC Comics) The Doctor is in. Pierce Brosnan has been cast as mystical hero Doctor Fate in Dwayne Johnson’s DC Extended Universe antihero adventure Black Adam (via The Hollywood Reporter). The veteran James Bond actor will bring to life one of DC Comics’ oldest characters, as Dr. Fate was created in 1940. The character is Kent Nelson, the son of an archeologist who comes across the wizard Nabu in an ancient Egyptian tomb. Nabu trains Nelson in the art of sorcery, bestowing on him the Helmet of Fate, a powerful artifact that has become Dr. Fate’s signature attire. Brosnan’s casting rounds out the Justice Society of America, who will either face off against or team up with Johnson’s Black Adam in the movie (or, likely, both)....
Zack Snyder’s Justice League isn’t due to hit HBO Max until March 18th, but some subscribers got an early, inadvertent look on Monday. HBO Max confirmed to Deadline that a glitch temporarily caused the first section of Justice League to stream for users trying to access the new Tom & Jerry movie. “The error was addressed within minutes,” according to HBO Max, but not before several people caught wind of the error and shared video and screenshots of the leak to social media. Snyder’s director’s cut runs four hours long and adds the Joker into the movie, with Jared Leto reprising his Suicide Squad character for the newly shot scenes. Warner Bros. provided Snyder with a reported $40 million for additional footage after he convinced the studio to do reshoots, on top of ...
Warner Bros. and DC Films have confirmed that a new Superman reboot is in the works from writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and J.J. Abrams, who is set to produce via his Bad Robot banner. Besides the fact that Hannah Minghella (the upcoming Cloverfield sequel and Masters of the Universe reboot) is also on board as a producer, not a thing is known about this new Superman movie. That includes how it will tie into the existing DC Extended Universe or whether Henry Cavill, who played Clark Kent/Kal-El in Zack Snyder’s DCEU trilogy and the upcoming Zack Snyder’s Justice League, will return to the role. We know he’s keen to do so, but we’ve also heard DC and Abrams had spoken to Michael B. Jordan about potentially putting on the cape. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter writer Borys Kit tweeted that sour...
DC Films and Warner Bros. have announced that Angel Manuel Soto will direct their upcoming superhero movie Blue Beetle. Soto, known for last year’s Charm City Kings, will work from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (the upcoming Scarface remake). The studios are obviously aware of the importance of bringing on Latino filmmakers for the project (Soto is Puerto Rican, Dunnet-Alcocer is Mexican), as it will be the DC Extended Universe’s first Latino-led superhero story. The Blue Beetle moniker has been used by numerous individuals since it was first created by Charles Wojtkowski for Fox Comics in 1939. It even bounced around different companies before DC picked it up in the ’80s when Charlton Comics went out of business. The current iteration, and the one that will form the basis for the movi...
The DC Extended Universe just got a little more super, as Sasha Calle has been added to the upcoming Flash movie as Supergirl. Director Andy Muschietti announced the casting by sharing video of the Zoom call he had with Calle informing her she’d won the role. According to Deadline, the Young and the Restless actress beat out 425 others for the part. The publication also noted that the Boston-born Colombian actress would be making “her debut” in the November 4th, 2022 release, implying there are plans for Calle’s Supergirl in future DCEU movies. This will mark the first time a Latina has ever worn the Supergirl outfit in any form, including in the comics. The character has historically been depicted as a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Kryptonian, previously played by Helen Slater in the 1984...
Jared Leto’s docket is mighty filled with big-budget franchises, from Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters (i.e. the Spider-Verse) entry Morbius to Disney’s next Tron sequel. Even so, he hasn’t written off reprising his controversial incarnation of the Joker in yet another blockbuster series for the DC Extended Universe. In a new interview on a Variety podcast, Leto said he’s open to returning as the Clown Prince of Crime, despite the fact that the character is absent from both the Harley Quinn spin-off Birds of Prey and the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel. Asked if he’d be interested in cameoing as the iconic DC villain in Wonder Woman 3, Leto said, “It’s hard to say no to that character. There are a very few characters that you play that have absolutely no rules, you know, that you could j...

Well, isn’t this a laugh. Zack Snyder’s new Justice League cut went from no reshoots, to select reshoots, to adding a whole new character, as Jared Leto is reportedly reprising his role as Joker. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Leto is heading to the set of what’s officially titled Zack Snyder’s Justice League. He’ll be returning as the Clown Prince of Crime for only the second time, having first debuted as the updated take on the classic villain in 2016’s Suicide Squad. This will also reunite him with Ben Affleck’s Batman, who cameoed in Suicide Squad and is also back for Snyder’s new round of filming. Other actors taking part in the reshoots include Ray Fisher (Cyborg) and Amber Heard (Mera). Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot were rumored to be coming back for more Superman and Wonder ...
Green Lanterns (image via HBO Max) and Seth Grahame-Smith, photo courtesy of author In brightest day, in darkest night, no evil shall escape Seth Grahame-Smith’s sight! The author-turned screenwriter/producer will serve as showrunner on HBO Max’s forthcoming series based on DC Comics’ Green Lantern. Originally announced a year ago, the show has also received a straight-to-series 10 episode order. Graham-Smith (IT producer, The LEGO Batman Movie writer) will co-write the first of those shows alongside Marc Guggenheim, the co-creator of The CW’s Arrowverse. Guggenheim previously co-wrote the failed 2011 Green Lantern movie with Greg Berlanti, who also returns for the TV adaption as producer. But who’s behind the series is perhaps less interesting to fans than who’s in it. The Green Lanterns ...
While the Justice League is reassembling over on HBO Max, another DC Comics super-team is making its way to the big screen. As star Dwayne Johnson revealed last month during the DC FanDome event, the forthcoming Black Adam movie will feature the Justice Society of America. Now come reports that Aldis Hodge has been recruited to be the group’s Hawkman. The Hollywood Reporter has it that the One Night in Miami and The Invisible Man actor has been cast as the high-flying hero in Black Adam. Hodge joins the previously announced Noah Centineo, who’s playing Atom Smasher, as well as Johnson in the titular role. Hawkman was one of the original members of the JSA, comics’ first-ever team of superheros that debuted in the early 1940s. In contemporary times, he is Carter Hall, an archaeologist with ...
