Tim Burton’s Batman Returns in New DC Comics Series

Cue up the Danny Elfman score — maybe even Prince’s “Batdance” — and get ready to revisit Tim Burton’s Batman universe. Today, DC Comics announced they’re spending this summer in the filmmaker’s Dark Deco’d Gotham City with Batman ’89. Written by original screenwriter Sam Hamm and brought to the page by artist Joe Quinones, the DC Digital First series will tell all new adventures featuring Michael Keaton’s incarnation of Batman. A press release promises the return of Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman, the debut of a new Robin (perhaps Marlon Wayans, as originally planned?), and the two-faced evolution of Billy Dee Williams’ Harvey Dent. Altogether, there will be 12 new chapters that “pull on a number of threads left dangling by the prolific director.” The first six will debut on July 27th with ...

Wonder Woman 1984 Is Gold Plated Positivity: Review

The Pitch: Wonder Woman is back — this time, in Washington DC, circa 1984 — to once again save the world from destruction. Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) is joined by her magically resurrected boyfriend Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and new frenemy Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig) to stop a destructive cycle of wish fulfillment and delusion run amok. In her second outing with the character, director Patty Jenkins once again leans into sentimentality, this time to extoll the power of honesty and sacrifice for the greater good. It’s a timely message, and though it takes some major suspension of disbelief to navigate the often clumsily connected dots, Wonder Woman 1984 is ultimately an uplifting story of hope in the face of pain and fear. I Wanna Know What Love Is: If you recall, 2017’s Wonder Woman focu...

Michael B. Jordan To Produce ‘Static Shock’ Film For DC

Source: Rich Fury / Getty Looks like Michael B. Jordan might be making the move from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to DC’s film universe, but not in the way you’d expect him to. According to Variety, the man who made “Killmonger” a fan-favorite villain in the classic film Black Panther (R.I.P. T’Challa), is preparing to lend his talents to DC’s struggling film division by stepping behind the cameras and producing a film adaptation of Static Shock. Producing the upcoming film through his Warner Bros.-based Outlier Society banner, B. Jordan is excited to bring some shine to one of the comic book game’s most overlooked Black superheroes. “I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around Black superheroes; our community deserves that,” Jordan said in a statement. “Outlier Soci...

Green Lanterns (image via HBO Max) and Seth Grahame-Smith, photo courtesy of author In brightest day, in darkest night, no evil shall escape Seth Grahame-Smith’s sight! The author-turned screenwriter/producer will serve as showrunner on HBO Max’s forthcoming series based on DC Comics’ Green Lantern. Originally announced a year ago, the show has also received a straight-to-series 10 episode order. Graham-Smith (IT producer, The LEGO Batman Movie writer) will co-write the first of those shows alongside Marc Guggenheim, the co-creator of The CW’s Arrowverse. Guggenheim previously co-wrote the failed 2011 Green Lantern movie with Greg Berlanti, who also returns for the TV adaption as producer. But who’s behind the series is perhaps less interesting to fans than who’s in it. The Green Lanterns ...

Aldis Hodge Joins DC’s Black Adam Movie as Hawkman

While the Justice League is reassembling over on HBO Max, another DC Comics super-team is making its way to the big screen. As star Dwayne Johnson revealed last month during the DC FanDome event, the forthcoming Black Adam movie will feature the Justice Society of America. Now come reports that Aldis Hodge has been recruited to be the group’s Hawkman. The Hollywood Reporter has it that the One Night in Miami and The Invisible Man actor has been cast as the high-flying hero in Black Adam. Hodge joins the previously announced Noah Centineo, who’s playing Atom Smasher, as well as Johnson in the titular role. Hawkman was one of the original members of the JSA, comics’ first-ever team of superheros that debuted in the early 1940s. In contemporary times, he is Carter Hall, an archaeologist with ...

Zack Snyder Reveals Superman’s Black Suit in Justice League Director’s Cut Clip: Watch

Comic-Con@Home has been streaming panels since Wednesday, but the virtual version of the San Diego event isn’t the only digital gathering of geeks happening this weekend. Bloggers The Nerd Queens (Cole and Nana) and Wonder Meg organized Justice Con in celebration of Zack Snyder’s long-called-for director’s cut of Justice League, finally set to debut on HBO Max next year. The filmmaker himself appeared for a Zoom panel during the event, and he didn’t come empty handed.
