With Chelsea closing in on Boateng, who will Bayern Munich sign in defence?

Chelsea are close to signing Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng on a free transfer this summer and that could pave the way for the German champions to bring in a replacement. The Bavarian giants celebrated the second treble in their history last season with Boateng and David Alaba making up their central defence, but both players appear set to head for the exit door in four months’ time. There has been a complete breakdown in contract talks with Alaba and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently confirmed that the Austrian will leave the club when his deal expires at the end of June. Boateng is in a similar contract situation and the indications are that he could leave alongside his defensive partner, with the Blues said to have agreed a deal in principle with his agent to sign him this summe...

Manchester United make formal RB Leipzig approach for Upamecano

Manchester United have made an approach for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano. United have been shaky at the back all season, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to strengthen his defence at the next available opportunity. Frenchman Upamecano is contracted with Leipzig until 2023, meaning the German club are under no pressure to sell. But Upamecano does have a €45million (£40m) release clause in his contract, which will appeal to the Red Devils. BILD says Man United are one of three clubs who have registered their interest in signing Upamecano. United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently spoke out about Upamecano, admitted he was excited to see him play against the Red Devils in the Champions League. Jamie Carragher: Liverpool should sign Dayot Upamecano in January

Former Liverpool defender turned popular football pundit Jamie Carragher has suggested that the Reds should sign Dayot Upamecano in the January transfer window. Carragher feels that the Reds should sign a top-class defender in January following the injury to Virgil van Dijk. The Dutchman suffered an ACL injury during the Merseyside derby, and he is expected to be out on the sidelines for a lengthy spell. Carragher feels that the Reds would struggle to retain the Premier League title without Van Dijk, and that is why they must sign a good defender in January. The loss of Van Dijk means Liverpool are left with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip as the only two recognised centre-backs. Fabinho can play in the centre-back role, but he is at best a stop-gap solution. The former Reds defender fe...

Ian Wright accuses Manchester United of ‘dithering’ over transfers

Ian Wright has urged Manchester United to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano. The 21-year-old impressed with his performances in the Champions League last season, most notably against Atletico Madrid. Upamecano recently revealed he held talks about a potential move away from RB Leipzig and his focus, for now, is the Bundesliga club (via Manchester Evening News). We all know that would quickly change if United came knocking with an offer in the morning, and former Arsenal star Wright thinks we should make move. When you look at the defence — despite Solskjaer claiming to be happy with it — it shouldn’t be hard to look into the transfer market to find better options. Victor Lindelof is an awful partner to Harry Maguire, but hopefully we see more combinations in the foreseeable future —...

Report: Man Utd plotting move to sign £37m star, want to get ‘deal done imminently’

Manchester United are looking to make a flurry of signings ahead of the new Premier League campaign. Having finally shaken off their disappointment of not getting Jadon Sancho, it seems the wheel has been set in motion to capture other targets. If the reports are to be believed, the Red Devils are close to landing their first signing of the summer in the form of £40 million-rated Ajax midfielder Van de Beek who is set to sign a five-year deal with an option for an extra year in the coming days. Now, the Red Devils have turned their attention towards signing a defender, and are prioritizing a deal to sign Dayot Upamecano. According to reports from ESPN, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned his attention towards signing the RB Leipzig centre-back, and wants to get a deal done immin...
