Universal Buys New Exorcist Trilogy for $400 Million, Ellen Burstyn to Return

Blumhouse and David Gordon Green have spent the past year quietly working on a new movie in The Exorcist universe. Now, it’s been revealed that the two are planning to create a full-fledged trilogy — and Universal has just purchased the rights to it for a whopping $400 million. According to The New York Times, Universal Pictures and its streaming service Peacock “have closed a $400 million-plus megadeal to buy a new Exorcist trilogy.” Morgan Creek Entertainment had held the rights to The Exorcist franchise, and will remain involved as producers alongside Universal, Green, and Blumhouse’s Jason Blum. We’ve reached the time of year when Michael Myers’ face always seems to get cold. The beloved villain puts on his trademark mask in the new teaser trailer for David Gordon Green’s Halloween Kills. This is the 12th installment of the Halloween franchise, and serves as a direct sequel to David Gordon Green’s 2018 reboot. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the release date has been kicked around more than a trick-or-treater’s head after it’s separated from their body. Universal’s Watch Party Series to Kickoff With Halloween Hosted by Jamie Lee Curtis

Jamie Lee Curtis is back on her live-watch game. Today, Universal announced it will be taking over weekends with a series of Twitter watch parties, and Laurie Strode herself will kick things off this Saturday, May 16th with 2018’s Halloween. She won’t be alone when she returns to Haddonfield, Illinois.
