Despite the fact that Spring Training isn’t happening this year, the Innings Festival still returned to the February baseball hotspots of Tempe, Arizona and Tampa, Florida. Green Day and the Lumineers are headlining the East Coast rendition in March while Foo Fighters and Tame Impala hit the desert this past weekend. The Arizona location featured a wide variety of baseball legends hanging out and quite a few activities. But it wasn’t all home runs. SPIN was on the ground at Tempe Beach Park for all of the rocking out and baseball fun. Here’s The Best, The Mess & The Rest of everything from this weekend. St. Vincent on Saturday evening. We all knew that the early 2000s were back, but now, they’re really back. Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional, two cornerstones of the aughts’ emo/punk boom, will be hitting the road together for a co-headlining tour. Billed as the “Surviving the Truth Tour,” the jaunt will kick off on February 27 in Albuquerque before ending three weeks later in Houston. You can grab pre-order tickets now. The tour will take place in the midwest and south. For Dashboard Confessional, the timing of the tour couldn’t be better. Chris Carrabba is conveniently releasing a new album, All The Truth That I Can Tell, on February 25. Last year, Jimmy Eat World celebrated the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough album Bleed American. We spoke with singer Jim Adkins about the importance...
For the first time in four years, Dashboard Confessional are releasing a new LP. Chris Carrabba unveiled the album’s first single, “Here’s To Moving On,” today. All The Truth That I Can Tell is set to release February 25 via Hidden Note Records / AWAL, and is available for pre-order now. A minute-long album trailer was also released today, where Carrabba gives a monologue of discovery: “I found the beauty in accepting that you can’t always be in control over where life will take you, that not everything is meant to last forever.” [embedded content][embedded content] The optimism that fuels Dashboard Confessional’s forthcoming record is ever-so-present in “Here’s To Moving On.” [embedded content][embedded content] “I think in this song I find myself understanding what brought me to the...
For much of the last quarter-century, Vagrant Records has been synonymous with the emo and alternative scenes. Much like how Epitaph Records and Fat Wreck Chords have become well-established homes for punk, Vagrant remains one of the most significant labels in the world thanks to a catalog featuring hundreds of beloved albums and dozens of all-time classics. Beginning with the launch of the Get Up Kids’ Something to Write Home About on Sept. 28, 1999, Vagrant went on a several-year run that included some of the biggest names of the 2000s, ranging from Saves the Day to Alkaline Trio, Dashboard Confessional to Rocket from the Crypt. But rather than hanging the past when artists left for to major labels, breaking up, or otherwise parting ways with Vagrant, the label adapted, expandi...
If the guys in Fuckin Whatever were to announce a tour together with each of their respective bands right now, it would probably be considered one of the top tours of the year — particularly if you’ve been into the whole emo and alternative scene for the last 20 years. Taking Back Sunday, Circa Survive, and Grouplove all on the same bill? Hell, you could even add in Saosin and maybe a special appearance by someone like Bad Books. For a band that contains John Nolan, Anthony Green, Adam Lazzara, and drummer Benjamin Homola, the possibilities are pretty much endless. But while the four friends were all on tour with their own bands for Taste of Chaos in 2016 (Homola was drumming for Dashboard Confessional at the time), they spent a lot of time goofing around in green rooms and parking lots. T...
If the tracklist for Say It Like You Feel It is any indication, it looks like Cash Cash‘s upcoming album could be their biggest to date. The veteran dance-pop trio have tapped a bevy of high-profile collaborators for the album, which will span a whopping 18 tracks. The record will dust the cobwebs off many of Cash Cash’s older singles, like 2017’s ROZES-assisted “Matches,” 2018’s “Finest Hour” with Abir, and 2019’s “Call You” featuring Nasri of MAGIC!. New songs to be unveiled on Say It Like You Feel It include its opener, “42,” and a joint track with Alex Newell called “The Feels.” Cash Cash are set to debut the album’s latest single “Ride Or Die,” a collaboratio...
Dashboard Confessional, Julien Baker and VÉRITÉ are some of the artists who have contributed tunes for this year’s set of new holiday singles for Spotify’s ever-growing playlist. Going into its third year, Spotify Singles: Holiday Collection sees Dashboard Confessional taking on Elvis Presley’s infamous “Blue Christmas.” “I’ve always loved Christmas songs and I’ve always loved Elvis,” Dashboard Confessional said in a statement. “What better choice could I have made for our Spotify Single than ‘Blue Christmas’. We delved into some seriously dreamy territory for our take on this classic Christmas song.” Meanwhile, Baker put her twist on “A Dreamer’s Holiday” — a ’40s track that was recorded by both Perry Como and Buddy C...
The year 2000 looms large in pop culture history: the Y2k non-scare, the Seinfeld “Newmannium” episode, the “In the Year 2000″ sketch from Conan O’Brien’s original late-night show, the Hulu series PEN15. And just like, say, the grunge-defined 1991, the year immediately conjures specific sounds: gleaming teen-pop, earnest radio rock, the Neptunes and Timbaland. There’s never a bad time to revisit this music. But in the middle of a pandemic, with America on the verge of collapse, it feels extra comforting — a blast of nostalgia for a time when you could safely exit your home, visit your local mall’s Sam Goody and buy Mystikal’s “Shake Ya Ass” CD single. For this list, our only criteria was that the songs appear on albums or soundtracks released in 2000. Here we go. 50. Papa Roach, “Last Reso...
Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba shared a grisly photo from his hospital bed on Thursday and shared a message that he was involved in a motorcycle accident. While the injuries were serious, he’s in stable condition. “Hi friends on June 6th I was in a motorcycle accident,” Carrabba began the post. “My injuries were severe but not life threatening. I owe the amazing doctors, nurses and medical team treating me my endless gratitude. I am determined to make a full recovery, but I have surgeries and months of rehab to come.” He continued: “I have not lost sight of the social issues at hand and even in the condition I’m in I find it important to state that I stand with black lives matter,” he continued. “In the near future it is likely I will no be able to follow the news as much as ...
